And we can all relax now that Audrey Tautou has won the role of Sophie Neveu out from under Julie Delpy.
I love Christopher Eccleston. Have done since he was in Cracker 10 years ago.
Audrey Tautou does indeed speak English. Her English language debut was in Dirty Pretty Things, I believe.
Poppy beat me to the news about Audrey Tautou..
But you one upped me with a pretty picture
can I still voice my displeasure with Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon?

Yes, and I'm right there with you kissmycookie. SO wrong.
It's lazy casting in extremis, it really is.
I'm not happy about Tom Hanks either, but maybe he'll surprise me. He's a great actor, so I'm hoping he can somehow pull off this part.
I think Audrey Tautou is a good casting choice, and though I'm not familiar with Christopher Eccleston, he looks the part.

I think it's a case of being chummy w/ the director and not being able to say no. What's the friendship version/word for nepotism?
btw - I wonder how Julie Delpy is feeling today.
I wonder how Julie Delpy is feeling today.
As talentless as she feels on every other day, I shouldn't wonder.
LOL - tell me how you really feel. I don't know her at all beyond her "sunset" movies, but I wonder if that quote about the role being hers was truly from her. I didn't think she looked academic enough for the role, and the casting directors agreed.

I think Hanks got cast because he's worked with director Ron Howard before (Apollo 13, Splash). Rumor was that Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe and George Clooney besides Hanks were leading candidates.
I think Harrison Ford would've made a good Langdon, but he can't act...IMO
Oh, awesome. I can totally picture everyone, aside from Hanks, in their roles! Very excited about this. Now, fingers crossed for Anthony Hopkins as the curator!
Another update from IMDB. Alfred Molina as Bishop Aringarosa. I could see it. Whyyyy Tom Hanks?? Whyyyy??
British actors Ian McKellen and Alfred Molina have been added to the cast of the anticipated screen adaptation of Dan Brown's controversial novel The Da Vinci Code. The movie, which will be directed by Ron Howard, features Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks in the lead role as Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon. Molina will portray Bishop Arigarosa, who takes a strong interest in the Holy Grail-pursuing efforts of Langdon and cryptographer Sophie Neveu, played by Audrey Tautou. McKellen takes on the role of wealthy eccentric Sir Teabing, who also has an interest in tracking down the Holy Grail.
I really wanted to see Idina play Sophie.
Sorry, I couldn't resist .
