I'm not going to be 21 for a few more months...
There has got to be a way to make a non-alcoholic mojito-like beverage.
Any ideas on how I could go about my quest to create a faux-jito recipe?
Virgin mojito
Serves 1. This is a nonalcoholic version of the Cuban classic. It's a great way to use up the jungle of fresh mint that takes over your garden.
1/2 cup fresh mint leaves
2 to 3 teaspoons sugar
8 ounces club soda
Ice (for serving)
1. In a 2-cup glass measuring cup, combine the mint leaves, sugar, and a splash of the club soda. Crush them with a spoon or a muddler (a rod with a flattened end), mashing them to release the minty flavor.
2. Add the remaining club soda.
3. Fill a glass with ice cubes, strain in the mint mixture, and add enough of the remaining soda water to fill the glass. Serve at once.
KelRel, you are my mocktail hero!
KelRel - you consistently amaze me at the depth of your knowledge!
Faux-jito's for all!
hey it is basically a mint julep and where am I from again?
LOL - (hangs head)
Do you want me to take back what I said about you being a fount of knowledge?
No, its fine...I will take the compliments where ever I can. I have acctually never had a Mint Julep or a Mojito...google is my friend
I actually have no idea where you're from...
See, this is what happens when I go to school for long periods of time...
The whole board changes!
FF it would help if I had my old sig up still but I had to use Namo's quote! I'm from Kentucky, which acctually inspired Namo's quote
Oh lovely... and all they got down there in old Kentucky is mint juleps, horse racing, and chicken. I seen it. I seen it on the TV.
FF come down here and I will show you that there is much more than that...wait there's umm..horses, and umm...chicken and umm...mint juleps and umm..oh yeah BOURBON! We are a sad little state, but its home
"Oh, the sun shines bright, on my old Kentucky home" - you have that (and the jelly*)
*bad joke in very poor taste. I apologize
OMG I was waiting for that shoe to drop...wow...well at least we have given the world a very great and useful product
I, for one, aside from all the jokes, really like KY. The town my ex's family is from is charming, his family is awesome, the countryside is beautiful. And oh my, the best biscuits and gravy in the world!
Thanks
DD come back and I will take you to my parents farm with horses and such and I will treat you to some famous KY cooking (with all the bourbon you care to drink)
I'll take the food... not a bourbon drinker.
One of the last times I was in Lexington we went to the race track... sheesh, I can't remember the name of it, but it was so... glamorous? Not the right word, but you know what I mean. Quite fun.
That would be Keeneland. I grew up around there. My father worked at the auctions after the races.

I am going to try the Fauxjito but with Splenda instead. It sounds so refreshing.
