Crisis Line Refers Gay Youth to The Old Testament

http://www.houstonvoice.com/2005/1-28/news/localnews/crisis.cfm#Jeffrey

Love this quote:

At the end of the conversation, after an hour of dueling with Bible verses, Faircloth asked the hotline volunteer, “How would you feel if some lonely kid in the middle of Nebraska, who had never heard anything except that he is a sinner killed himself after talking to you?”

He was shocked at the man’s answer: “Sometimes the devil makes things happen.”

Me, too. This is just a can of worms that we shouldn't even have to worry about being opened, and yet, there it is.
What if this were a Muslim gay kid? Does he deserve to be told he's sinning in the eyes of the Christian religion and the help he needs is of the religious kind?

re: Crisis Line Refers Gay Youth to The Old Testament

Some of these people, I just don't understand. It makes me scared and angry. But mostly sad.
-bwaysinger, you know most of the nutjobs who run that type of crap would say exactly that. Muslim Gay or not, he better convert before he spends eternity in the HELL FIRES!
You can't even make fun of the b*stards properly because they always seem to turn out worse than you expected.
Just to be clear, I am not talking about all Christians, just the FUNDY WACKOS who do this tyoe of crap.
I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.

This is the problem with faith-based funding. They're giving money, government money, to groups who then proselytize. Now, that's fundamentally wrong...and you can justify it by saying Jewish groups, Muslim groups, Wiccan groups (you know they'd never get it, although come on, let's play fair, fellas), all get funding as well...but it's clear the reason this kind of legislation was pushed through...and now people have government approval AND money to push their own agenda upon people.
The founding fathers wanted religion separate from politics to prevent this sort of thing, not to create a nation of godlesness. But how DARE a group professing to help people seek to use someone's weakness to toss a little hellfire and damnation onto their soul.
Up in Heaven, Jesus is marking a few names off the Roll Call of Eternal Life for the murder (yes, I believe this man would be culpable if a kid committed suicide after calling him) of children.

"faith-based funding" = unconstitutional removal of the Founding Fathers' carefully constructed barrier betwen church and state.

It is part of the ongoing Republican attempt to turn the United States into a theocratic dictatorship.

Can't happen here? It already is.

'Cause that's just the thing you want to hear when you call a crisis hotline...

re: Crisis Line Refers Gay Youth to The Old Testament

Being a Christian I want to go up to these people and remind them of what the man they are supposed to be representing and worshipping once said, "Let those among you without sin cast the first stone." Unless they are sin free then they have no right to punish or discriminate against someone else. And no one, espeically according to those of us of the Christian faith, is without sin except for Jesus Christ. I doubt any one has the guts to claim His status.

But that's just it, KelRel...judging is what most Christians do best.
I won't say I'm above judging people, but I won't condemn them to hell, especially when I am unable to speak for God or with his infallible authority and say that, yes, indeed, you're going to hell if you do a certain thing.

re: Crisis Line Refers Gay Youth to The Old Testament

I believe that in order to go to Heaven all one needs to do is ask God/Jesus into your heart and ask them to forgive your sins. Its not go see if Billy Jo Bob down in Texas thinks you are living right and then we'll get back to you about it. No one here on Earth has that kind of power. Also putting oneself before God is a big no no...I wonder if that includes speaking for Him? Interesting thought there

Heh. And that's EXACTLY what a lot of these people are doing: they claim to speak for God. They certainly seem to be able to tell you what you're doing that is condemning you to hell.
Jesus never condemned a soul. He healed them, fed them, and they wandered around like a roving hippie commune, spreading the love.

re: Crisis Line Refers Gay Youth to The Old Testament

hey and Kel Rel the big story of Jesus' life is that it is saying even someone who IS represented as sin free still doesn't have the right to judge.

We are you we are and live the life we have, I don't understand the need of somepeople to bring their life and their needs and fears and use them against someone else. To do it in a crisis situation is beyond disgusting. We reach out to build relationships with each other, to ease the pain of the world with that aura of goodness, some call God that is inside of us. Those who are trying to manipulate destroy and cause internal pain are as bad as the most viloent of criminals.

KelRel--I, along with hundreds of millions of other people on this planet, get to go to heaven WITHOUT Jesus having ANYTHING to say about it. I hope that's clear.

See you in heaven.

PalJ, I think that's why KelRel inserted the words "*I* believe" at the beginning of his statement of what he feels to be true.

Anyway...

"Jesus never condemned a soul. He healed them, fed them, and they wandered around like a roving hippie commune, spreading the love."

I totally agree. I think that if Jesus were wandering around NYC in 2005 instead of Galilee in 25, he would be hanging out outside the gay bars with the lonely souls, sharing his french fries with the homeless alcoholic and giving a hug to the young woman who just had an abortion because her boyfriend became violently hostile over a broken condom. The fundys seem to miss that Jesus hung out with the low-lifes of society - the drunks, the whores, those who cheated the poor out of money - to show them love. He condemned the religious fundamentalists of the time, calling them "a brood of vipers," or, in today's language, "a big group of @ssholes." Interesting, that...

They missed the part about how hard it is for a rich man to get into heaven, too.

My big question is, if Jesus was a Tony voter, what would he pick as "Best Musical?" In other words, How Would Jesus Vote?

re: Crisis Line Refers Gay Youth to The Old Testament

Jesus just called me and said it was offically a mortal sin to vote for Spamalot. He is voting Piazza, but willing to give the Holy Spirit to Bee. The Father is a Norbert man. re: Crisis Line Refers Gay Youth to The Old Testament

re: Crisis Line Refers Gay Youth to The Old Testament

I'd bet Jesus would write in "Altar Boyz."

And if he's gonna diss Spamalot anyway, I wish they would have gone ahead and added in "Every Sperm is Sacred!"

re: Crisis Line Refers Gay Youth to The Old Testament

I truly believe that, when all those mean, hateful people come face to face with the Lord, He will say to them, "You just didn't get it, did you? All I wanted was for you to be nice to each other..."
