On September 10.

Previously only available as a crappy letterboxed dvd.

(Now if they would include parts 2 and 3 as a bonus I'd be in heaven!)

I've never put that much--or any--effort into parsing the various levels of quality in my video "collection", and my tolerance for crappy video/sound quality is pretty high: the only way I can see Jayne Meadows in 'High Society' is to watch it on Youtube--so every couple of months, I watch it on Youtube.

Are the Criterion editions meaningfully superior to other versions?

You think, what do you want? You think, make a decision...

Yes. What Criterion does is magical. It's pristine and the sound is unbelievable.

Really, you need to see it for yourself to understand why we cream over them.
Also, they pack their editions full of truly worthwhile extras. Several essays from noted film historians, full length documentaries on various directors, and so much more.

They are dubbed "film school in a box".

If you ever see one of your favorite films is out on Criterion - get it! You can thank me later.

But beware! Once you have seen the difference you'll probably never be able to watch a movie on youtube again.
