While this may seem like Brokeback has the Oscar already, note that almost all the critics awards went to Sideways last year.
I don't think/hope Walk the Line will win Best Picture. I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't get nominated for BP--but it prob will.
Notice how these awards could boost the chances of various films and performers--Crash, Hustle & Flow (for acting), Junebug (supporting actress), etc.

Posted: 12/12/05 at 1:54amSome people are predicting a backlash for BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN due to the early critics sweeps, but I think it'll be tempered by all the previous Ang Lee snubbings.

I have come to expect anything these days. The Academy has been defying precedents to the point where you can't feel certain anymore.
I might be brave enough to predict this:
Best Picture: King Kong
Best Director: Ang Lee - Brokeback Mountain

Jerby, you've got me obsessed with reading the Oscarwatch.com forums. You're not doing my grad school application any favours!
Anyway, the folks there (and they are a surprisingly intelligent bunch) predict that KONG will be overlooked by the Golden Globes, simply because the foreign press vote like gregarious sheep, and the buzz for KONG hadn't kicked in yet before the ballots were due. Expect a similar situation to 2003, when the Golden Globes over-emphasized COLD MOUNTAIN in its nominations.

Now would be a good time to note a prediction I've had for awhile. Here it is:

Not really surprising, Margo -- The NBR didn't ever list any of the LOTR films in their top ten. A bone to pick with fantasy and/or Peter Jackman apparently.
