Cruise: "I Believe in Aliens"

It's all fine and dandy to believe in life in outer space. What I find amusing is word choice "arrogance." As in it's ok to be arrogant about your unfounded beliefs in medicine and psychology - but it's not ok to be arrogant in thinking we are the only species in the universe.

"No, there are many things out there, we just don't know."

Yes, Tom - and rather than be ARROGANT about them, we should be accepting of all possibilities. Pot, meet kettle...

-------------------------
Hollywood actor Tom Cruise believes in aliens - claiming it would be arrogant to think we, as humans, were alone in this universe. The movie star is currently promoting his new film War Of The Worlds, which sees him on the run from extra-terrestrials who cause havoc on earth. In a interview with German newspaper Bild, Cruise says, "Yes, of course (I believe in aliens). Are you really so arrogant as to believe we are alone in this universe? Millions of stars, and we're supposed to be the only living creatures? No, there are many things out there, we just don't know." Cruise is a long-time follower of the controversial Church of Scientology and is believed to be converting his fiancee Katie Holmes to the religion.

Well I also think it's condescending of Tom to imply the interviewer didn't believe. He says "Are you really so arrogant as to believe..."

Why not "Are people so arrogant" or "There are people who are so arrogant as to..."

re: Cruise: 'I Believe in Aliens' (but apparently not psychiatry)

what cracks me up is he tells Matt Lauer that Matt knows NOTHING about psychology...and that he (Tom) knows everything....so now Tom knows ALL about life on other planets?
There may be other life out there......but sorry Tom, you are NOT the expert on that subject.

We are going to see War of the Worlds today, and I am really torn with putting more money in that fools pocket

Even better is this page 6 story:

June 29, 2005 -- THE new religion embraced by former Catholic schoolgirl Katie Holmes — unlike her original faith — actually encourages abortion. As The Post's Philip Recchia has re ported, the Church of Scientology assigned Tom Cruise's fiancée a full-time handler, Jessica Rodri guez, 29, who is a member of the sect's elite corps, the Sea Organization. Like all Sea Org members, Rodriguez is discouraged by the sect from ever giving birth. And if she does get pregnant, chances are she'll have an abortion. A former high-ranking Sea Org member now tells Recchia: "It is estimated that there have been some 1,500 abortions carried out by women in the Sea Organization since the implementation of a rule in the late '80s that members could not remain in the organization if they decided to have children. And if members who have been in the Sea Organization for, say, 10 years do decide to have kids, they are dismissed with no more than $1,000" in severance. Our source's ex-wife was also a Sea Org, and she was pressured by the church into having an abortion.

o...kaaaaay. I am a pro choice guy. I have no problem with women having abortions. But this is scary.

And as for the voodoo woman, I'm curious as a voodoo practitioner what she'll do n.n

OMIGOSH...that hits an all time hi (lo) on the jaw-drop meter. What the heck is this Sea Organization's purpose that they can not have children/family. Are they allowed to marry?

Where are we going, and why am I in this handbasket?

The thought of scientologists taking over the world is scarier than any alien invasion movie ever could be.
Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be enbered with your old nonsense. ~ Emerson
