Is it just me, or has this been happening a lot lately?

"Detective Inspector Paddy O’Neill said:...Having had oversight of the investigation since its inception and taking into account the full circumstances, I accept his report was made in good faith."
What does this mean? The detective thinks the guy was so drunk that he fell but confused that with being attacked by a mob?

"Detective Inspector Paddy O’Neill said: ‘We managed to recover some CCTV footage which shows the injured party falling face-first onto the pavement.
‘We have showed him the CCTV and he now accepts his injuries were caused during the fall."
Well, if there was video of him falling and hurting himself, then the answer to your question would be 'Yes'.

That sounds just about right to me. We don't know what happened prior to the fall. Perhaps someone was giving him a hard time and his alcohol-addled brain put two and two together mistakenly. That's just a guess on my part.
On a side note does anyone imagine a cop named "Paddy O'Neill" to look something like this:

A good reminder that caring about hate and other crimes (including sex crimes) shouldn't lead anyone to kneejerk conclusions as to the guilt of the accused.
I would think in this case it might well be that the accusation was made in good faith but has been proven to be mistaken.
People do sometimes imagine and believe things that didn't actually happen.

"I haven’t lied to anyone or about anything, my genuinely belief was due to previous events in the night and the state I was in, I put 2 and 2 together and unfortunately got 5."
He seems to be saying that an earlier incident led him to believe that he'd been attacked, despite not remembering exactly what happened. That's understandable, I suppose, but then for God's sake WAIT until the investigation has concluded before taking to Facebook to claim you were gay-bashed (or to claim anything, for that matter).

Remember, you are talking about someone who was so drunk that they couldn't remember entire portions of the evening, so I wouldn't wait for him to make a proper judgment call on just about anything.

This reminded me of the injuries that Randy Gener sustained back in January, returning home early one morning after attending an opening night party. Mind, I am NOT saying his is a crying wolf situation, but that event is still shrouded in mystery. Gener can't remember what happened and the guy who knocked him down with one punch says that Randy started it by striking his female companion when they bumped into each other on the sidewalk. That they fled the scene when they saw how badly Gener had been injured by that punch doesn't speak well of them, but barring eyewitnesses or film, what becomes of a case like his?
And does anyone have any further info on Gener's condition? I can't find anything more recent than feb 5th.
