does anyone know anything about this? I recieved a ticket today as a gift and I have no idea what the deal with it is. All I know is it's at the Kennedy Center.
Right before Wicked opened, I went to an "Evening with Stephen Schwartz" at one local college as part of a music festival. Basically, it was him with a piano, and he sang a bunch of his songs. He also had two cabaret singers, a tenor, and a "belter" (she sang Defying Gravity) and they sang some of his other music. It was very enjoyable. I'm guessing that this may be similar?

Four of us BWWers were at the KenCen visit last year. SS is a great storyteller. He sings some of his tunes, has others join him as well. There's time for Q and A. It was really wonderful.
The venue in the KenCen is the atrium, which is a long, narrow hallway with folding chairs (not in one of the theaters). We were very crammed in. Get there early - it's general admission seating and you are not allowed to save seats - even if your husband it downstairs parking the car! They're VERY serious about this. Will we see you there?
I covered Stephen's Show, same format, 3 years ago. He on piano, Cabaret award winner Scot Coulter (high tenor) and Debbie Gravitte, who treated us to the first time anyone heard Defying Gravity from his "new" musical WICKED.
It's an enjoyable evening. Stephen sang a little more than I prefered, but he is an interesteing story teller and great pianist.
If you get some time with him, take advantage of this. He is a super nice person to talk with. Very humble and encouraging. Also bring a few extra bucks as he sells quite a variety of his CD's.
A very enjoyable time. You'll be happy you were there. Enjoy!
I went to a similar event at the KC last year, though Stephen shared the time with Ahrens and Flaherty.
Not going to this year though- last year, his portion was too focused on one show.
BlueMoon- Yes, I'll be there. I do not have class at all that day, so I'm free to wonder into the city that afternoon and walk the city. I know you said to get there early, but how early is too early? Are they strict about getting there hours early?
thanks guys for all the information. Now that I know what it is I'm happy I now have a ticket

Well, three hours is a bit too long. An hour to 45 minutes should be more than enough.
PB--Was that the show at Zoellner Arts Center on Lehigh University's campus during Musikfest in Bethlehem, or did he do the same show in Philly? What you described is exactly what I saw....only I couldn't remember the performers names. Thanks for the details!
The one thing I do remember was that a local community theater was doing a run of Pippin during the time he came to town, and so none of them could go see his show, so he went to see them! How cool is that???? The composer actually stops by to offer words of encouragement!

Yeah I didn't want to come across too strong, but I really do want a good seat, so an hour should be good enough?

Yes - you should be able to be very close in you're there an hour in advance. People don't form a line until therre are @ 10 people waiting.
