DVD Audio To CD/MP3

You tech-savvy folks---

Is there any way to get the audio portion of a DVD into an mp3 or other kind of ipod-friendly format? I've heard of assorted downloadable programs that can do it, but I'm wary without some input from others. Anybody?

The way I would do it is to play the DVD and pipe the audio into a computer's line-in and record it to WAV, then compress to MP3. There is probably a quicker way but it would most likely require software and an internal computer DVD drive.

Thanks, SNL, that's pretty much what I'd reconciled myself to doing for now.
