At my local Blockbuster, they were having a special on movies, you can rent 3 for 10.00 and I went in and returned my copy of JUST FRIENDS (funny, yet disappointing) and decided to take them up on their offer. I rented THE FAMILY STONE (featuring Sarah Jessica Parker, Rachel McAdams, etc..) DATE MOVIE (with Alison Hanngian & Jennifer Coolige) & since I'd never gotten through the whole film in theatres due to weather problems- The Producers the movie musicial.
THE PRODUCERS- Hysterical. I loved Matthew when he went crazy about the blanket and the accounting books when he called Nathan "FAT!" and Roger Bart & Gary Beach were hysterical. Uma was insane, I loved her, and she was so nutty. Unlike in many of her films. Nathan of course was a hoot, and always in is in, anything. Of course the musical numbers were great, and I enjoyed every minute of the movie. I just wish I'd have seen them in the show on Broadway.
THE FAMILY STONE- I throughly enjoyed this movie. Sarah Jessica Parker, is such a friggy nutjob in this, she's very conservitative and cold on the outside. She is brought home to meet the Stone family by eldest and star child Everett (Dermot Mulroney, why does he always play the groom?--- Hello MY BEST FRIEND'S WEDDING!?) and when Meredith (Sarah Jessica) encounters these people they all are in all resentment of her. From youngest daughter Amy, the angst rebel (played with frumpy perfection by Rachel McAdams, who I loved from MEAN GIRLS.) to pot-smoking, surfer dude looking son Ben (Luke Wilson) to Mother Sybil (Diane Keaton) all frown upon her. Soon however a secret is shown by Sybil, you realize that this woman is in serious turmoil. When Meredith finally has had it, she calls in her artsy sister Julie (Claire Daines) to assess the damages. Soon romances are flip flopped, and the dynamics change, but family & and being true to who you are what ring free with comedy and tears. I really enjoyed this movie.
DATE MOVIE- Its of course the same genre as SCARY MOVIE poking fun at all the different romantic comedies from MY BEST FRIEND'S WEDDING, SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE, BRIDGET JONE'S DIARY, MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING, MEET THE FOCKERS & MEET THE PARENTS. The story is of Julia Jones (Alison Hannigan) an ugly duckling who works in her father's greek restruant whose unlucky in love till she gets made over- Pimp My Ride style and meets Grant (Adam Campbell), perfect in everyway and falls head over heels for him. Then when his "best man" turns out to be a beautiful supermodel-like beauty, Julia goes from hilarious attempt to another to keep the "best man" from stealing her man. The spoofs were hysterical. In a spoof of MEET THE FOCKERS-Jennifer Coolige is hysterical as a Barbara Streisand wannabe like character and Alison was dead on as well. In the way that the SCARY MOVIE series entertained me, this entetained and also grossed me out at times, but still I liked it.

Luke Wilson is in The Family Stone, not Owen.

Thanks. I thought it was Owen, but originally put Luke then changed it.
