Okay well i had a really old dvd player and for some reason it wouldn't play burnt dvd's (I know burning dvd's is wrong and stuff....) and so it finally broke so I am buying a new one. How can I be sure that my dvd player will play burnt dvd's? My old one was a dvd-r player and most of the new ones are dvdr-rw? does that mean it'll play burnt dvds?

Mine won't, either. Most newer ones will. But yes, I believe that that means it will play them. re: DVD Players playing burnt dvd's

I think all models now should play burnt DVD's.

I went to amazon.com and looked at different DVD players and when you look at the specs of the product it should say something like "Plays DVD, DVD+/-RW, MPEG4/DivX/XviD, VCD, SVCD, CD+R/-RW, HDCD, MP3, WMA, JPEG, CD "

Obviously you may not need it to play all those formats but...you get the idea. Updated On: 4/9/06 at 03:48 PM

Part of the problem could also be the formatting. I made a video cd/dvd of a slideshow and the program used to burn it asks if you want it to be formatted to play in dvd players as well as your computer. You must click yes before burning in order to have it play in a dvd player.

Yes, DVD-RW players will play both DVD-RW (rewritable) and DVD-R (recordable) discs.

I burn them on a new Sony DVD recorder

I have an Cyberhome in my living room. It plays ones I burned on my original cyberhome & ones I burned on the sony. It will not play Fujis I burned on the sony. I stay away from Fuji DVD'S & stick with memorex - I have no problem with them

Your burner should have documentation (probably online) listing compatible players. Also make sure your dvd's are of decent quality.

thanks alot. I actually just bought one yesterday and I made sure it said DVD R DVD RW. and I played one burnt dvd and it worked. then I borrowed one from a friend and it wouldn't work. so I'm guessing it depends on the dvd and how it's formatted...maybe the name brand of the dvd.....thanks alot for your help
