DVD QUESTION#0

Posted: 4/17/06 at 4:19pm

okay well I want to buy the Cabaret DVD (can you beleive that they don't sell it in any of the stores around my freakishly small town!) so I looked on Amazon.ca and I found it but it didn't say what format it was in. So I was just wondering if it would be safe to assume that it's widescreen?? I mean alot of DVD's only come in widescreen because the majority of the people purchase them.

Mine is widescreen...and I don't believe I've ever seen any other version available.

If you look carefully on Amazon.com under Product Details for Cabaret you will see that it DOES say Widescreen:

Format: Closed-captioned, Color, Special Edition, Widescreen, NTSC

"Cabaret" is a letterboxed transfer, although the revised packaging lists it as "enhanced for widescreen," meaning 16x9 anamorphic.

It is NOT enhanced (anamorphic).

It's a 4x3 letterboxed transfer. The exact same one released initially on DVD. They just updated their packaging artwork when "Chicago" came out on DVD to make it look a little more like "Chicago"... and they listed the ratio incorrectly on the new packaging.

But unless you have a widescreen TV, you won't even notice the difference.
