I just ordered digital cable and a DVR to be put in next week. Question I forgot to ask since I don't know much about them -- can you watch one program while recording another? Or even record more than one at a time with it? Does it depend on the brand?

You can record one and watch one, or you can record two at the same time. On mine at least.

instead of getting dvr ($8.99/mnth) I decided it was worth getting HBO,SHOW, and MAX all with On Demand for $22.95/month

on demand is the best thing to ever happen to me

Getting the ondemand also for HBO -- it's a package deal - high speed internet, on demand with HBO, DVR, and unlimited phone service for 155 dollars a month.

There are two different kinds of DVRs, singles and duos. The duos allow you to watch one channel while recording another. I'm not sure there's an easy way to permanently save something on removable media when there's a duo. When I had a single DVR I could copy things onto VHS if I wanted to save it permanently. Now I can't because my TV is so old there are limited jacks on back.

If you have the DVR going into through a VCR or DVD recorder BEFORE it goes into the television, you can copy shows from the DVR's memory to a DVD or videotape just by playing them and pressing "Record."

That's good to know - I'll ask the cable guy to set it up that way with the VCR :)
