We've all been touched by it. We've all been affected by it. And, one day, we will be consumed by it. Is the fact that death will one day claim you frightening? Do you believe in an afterlife or would death be just like an eternal sleep?
I read something very interesting earlier which compared the two philosophies of Socrates and Epicurus on this issue:

I pretty much agree with that guy. Death cannot be more than an eternal neutral zone. Pleasure and pain are within the eye of the beholder and if we all have to go through this, then how can the same thing happen for everyone? Or does the same thing happen for everyone?
I was afraid this was going to be a hot or not thread

Death is of course a scary thing, but not really to me since I believe that death is the passing from the physical body to the spiritual one that will live forever in either heaven or hell--and heaven was my choice! But yeah, just the death part scares me. I hope I die peacefully and there's no tension between my loved ones at the time.
For some reason I've been thinking of this subject almost every night for a couple weeks. For me, Summer nights have always been killers for this stuff, no pun intended. I guess it's the ultimate "nothing to do but think" time for me.
My belief matches yours Adam. It's not the fact of being dead that scares me, only the process of getting there.
