This can't end well. Isn't is really a form of censorship? I realize that movies can be made outside of the BFI, but this seems to set an impossible standard.
"Movie companies have been told they must meet new targets for ethnic minority, gay and female characters on screen to be eligible for future funding from the British Film Institute."
"On screen, at least one lead character must be “positively reflecting diversity”, with the story more likely to receive funding if it “explicitly and predominantly explores issues of identity relating to ethnicity or national origins, a specific focus on women, people with disabilities, sexual identity, age and people from a socially disadvantaged background”.

Every organization that gives money sets its own guidelines for doing so. It might be censorship if they tried to stop films that didn't meet their criteria from being made. But that's clearly not the case here.
Actually, I think you'd be hard pressed to find many American films that DON'T meet the requirements. The Brits can do it, too. Proclaiming the "death" of British film is premature.
