Deconstructing Madonna

Camille Paglia on her favorite subject:

Madonna is starting to morph into the mature Joan Crawford of "Torch Song," still ferociously dancing but with her fascist willpower signaled by brute, staring eyes and fixed jawline. In cannibalizing her disco diva days, Madonna runs the risk of turning into a pasty powdered crumpet like the aging Bette Davis in "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?" Will she become a whooping Charo shaking her geriatric hoochie-coochie hips on TV talk shows? Or should we expect a sudden, grisly collapse from glowing beauty to dust, like Ursula Andress as the 2000-year-old femme fatale in "She"?

CP is all about Madonna....again.
"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

re: Deconstructing Madonna

LOL. I think Madonna is going age gracefully. She speaks of wanting to direct, which I think could prove fascinating. She may not be a great actor, but she certainly has been playing producer/director her whole career. Her best work is where she can be in control. I could see her evolving into a great creator of film and maybe stage works.

Without starting a range war with ya Jerby, I think that the usually attractive Madonna looked like road kill at the premiere of I'm Going to Tell You a Secret. The hair style is just nasty on her.

re: Deconstructing Madonna

I think it's funny that Camille Paglia used to ADORE Madonna and would rave on and on about Madonna's finger twitch, until Madonna said on an interview that Paglia's theories were flattering but faulty. Ever since, Paglia's just been one vicious bitch. Objective criticism my ass.

On a completely separate note, is "Hung Up" Madonna's catchiest song, ever? Like other first singles "Frozen" and "Music," I wasn't very impressed with "Hung Up" on first listen, but I've since fallen head over heels for the track. With each listen I just become more and more entranced. I can't get enough of it!

re: Deconstructing Madonna

Madonna can follow Catherine Deneuve and Sophia Lauren- sex bomb won't last forever, and they are proof that one can age elegantly and still have some sex appeal.

Blue- I am obsessed with the album version of Hung Up. And if I play it on my iPod walking down the street, I unconciously begin strutting.
