a straight and a metrosexual would essentially be the same thing since the "metro" is just a straight guy who is not afraid to be pretty (likes the queers)
A metrosexual, in case you didn't catch any of several newspaper articles about this developing phenomenon (or the recent "South Park" episode on Comedy Central), is a straight man who styles his hair using three different products (and actually calls them "products"), loves clothes and the very act of shopping for them, and describes himself as sensitive and romantic. In other words, he is a man who seems stereotypically gay except when it comes to sexual orientation.

One of the latest things to confuse me since moving to NYC--fem men who seriously dig chicks. And, they are seriously not bi or gay!! I don't get it! Men who are almost as swishy as Jack on Will & Grace who talk about female anatomy like straight guys!
I guess we are coming full circle. Kinda awesome. But, kinda frustrating if you have a crush on a guy. =)

Metrosexuals are just like a lot of Brits.
One of my best friends in the UK goes apesh**t over eighteenth-century French soft-paste porcelain and mannerist drawings and designed a fancy-dress Turkish costume ball. He's very "affected" in manner but is very happily married to a wonderful woman. And amazingly, he doesn't 'ping' at all. He's just a Brit.

I like to consider myself a metro...
Everyone automatically makes assumptions about me. I can dress, I get physically excited at Williams Sonoma and West Elm, I love theater, I detest messes, and I gossip like a fiend. I have more gay mannerisms than most stereotypes even allow... And I have a better time at "gay" bars (of course) than at the general places.
I just can't quash my attraction to women. Even though I might have a lot more fun when I go to bars with my friends if I did.
And I hate the term "the breeders"... please don't.

That's funny ck, out of the whole list you created, the only thing I have in common with you is the part about loving theater. I can assume that the things I don't have in common with you are the reasons people often make assumptions about my sexuality, too. Maybe I should audition for the Queer Eye for the Messy Queer Guy special? Actually, people only assume I'm straight until I start talking about my areas of interest. "Did you see the Golden Globes? It was wild that Mary Louise Parker won for Angels in America against all the Sex & The City girls. I mean, I SAW Cynthia Nixon as a replacement Harper on Broadway in the original production, I also so the incandescent Marcia Gay Harden, you know, from Pollock and Mystic River? Anyway, when Mary Louise was going up for the Globe I was hoping Cynthia would yell, 'That's my part, I was there first!'" Then they blink at me. And I say, "Um, how 'bout those Patriots?"

I hate H&M! They have the UNGLIEST and most cheaply made clothes I've ever seen. It's no wonder theey're priced so low. One wash and they'll fall apart. The sweaters wouldn't keep a dachsund warm in the Spring. I'll be glad when the 70s unemployed homeless look is out. The wrinkled dingy shirts and jeans that look like you've been sitting in your own waste for a few months. It's the worst fashion trend since the actual 70s. And that was pretty bad.
I have also heard Metrosexual defined as straight women who will behave sexually with each other when partying, but still consider themselves straight. It's more or less the blurring of the lines between hetero and homo sexuality so that there are no clear divisions or stereotypes.

"One wash and they'll fall apart." Sounds like my last boyfriend.
Actually, Matt, your entire first paragraph was brilliant. You might want to work it into a comic monologue, because I was laughing.

Have you been listening in on my MSN Messenger sessions...?
There are certainly all kinds of people, eh? That's why stereotypes can be fun... because they're like a big castle made out of legos... if you want, you can break them into tiny little pieces...
I usually feel really good about myself when people make their assumptions. For many reasons. I tend to idolize most of my gay friends... so I appreciate it.
