Yeah, the loss of the Demme cut of SWING SHIFT is one of the real tragedies of recent moviemaking. Apparently, the only versions of Demme's cut were available from a VHS copy circa 1983 that mysteriously leaked out to film critics and some industry people (including Pauline Kael who called the film "a masterpiece"). Those tapes, in one article I read about this, were so old that they have all been basically lost. We, nor anyone, will ever see the original cut of SWING SHIFT.

On the other hand, we get to see the original cut of Ed Harris popping out beneath the towel wrapped around his waist and for that reason I will always love Swing Shift.
