I took the SATs in 1975.

You had to bring two No.2 chisels to carve out your answers on the stone tablet.

I HATED the SATs.

Took them once, did decent, wanted better, but didn't want to take them again.

Forced to take a second time, and got 100 points better. Worth it? I think not lol

Eh, the SATs weren't that bad. It helped that I had a knack for the verbal section, so I pretty much just needed to study geometry for the math section since it was never offered at my high school.

SAT IIs, on the other hand...*shudder*

Oh yeah, Plum, i totally agree. I kind of enjoyed the SAT's (but I'm a freak like that) but the SAT II's were horrid. Both were worse than the ACT's though, they were better.
Glad I'm done with that, but kind of wishing I were taking those next year instead of the MCAT's. Aaaahhh!!

Oh yeah, i forgot about the new SATs. If it makes you feel better, some schools don't even look at SATs (mine doesn't) so don't freak out too much.

i've only taken one SAT II so far... the biology E/M one... it really wasn't too bad. i took the molecular section and got a 720

Wow, BEKA, that's a good score for the bio. Very nice!

I just remember taking the French SAT II and I didn't understand what was obviously a very important word, and the next 20 questions were based on the passage which centered around the word. Oh well, I didn't do too badly, and either way, my SAT I and SAT IIs didn't matter. My school prefers ACTs or AP tests anyway, and I did better on those.

I hate the SATs and standardizing education in general. I barely remember taking them (haha, junior year overexertion), but I did well enough.

What are the new SATs?

I'm not sure about all of the changes, but the new SAT has a writing component, similar to the one that's on the PSAT, and to compensate for the SAT II: Writing exam. It's going to be a pain in the arse.

basically, they took away the analogies and added a 20-minute essay. it's 3 sections now -- reading, writing, and math.

the highest i got on the 8 practice ones i took was a 640... so i was REALLY surprised... and excited

the big tests always seem to work out for me... LUCKILY. on the earth science regents i got a 96 when i got b+'s in that class all year. but now i know earth science was the easiest science i would ever take...

The only good thing about the new SAT is that you don't have to take the SAT II: writing section.

I've been visting schools and they've been talking about the new SAT. Because they don't really know what to expect of the writing section, they're ignoring it this year (er...this years jrs as they apply.) They need a lot of statistics about how kids do on it to make it mean. Anyway, think of it this way- no analogies, and the writing doesn't matter much.

I loved analogies. But I understand why they took them out- they're more a measure of intelligence than of learning.

I took the Math IIC and Writing SAT IIs with a 102 degree fever. Not the nicest experience. But at least I did well enough not to have to take them again. :)
