We had 2-3 live-in maids when I was growing up. One was the governess/cook and the other two had cleaning duties.
don't mind me, i'm just like joan crawford on a bender today.
SonofMammaMiaSam---A mammy named Mamie??
SonofMammaMammyNamedMamieMiaSam???
And RobbO---There's NOTHING on earth worse than a redundant Joan Crawford.
We were/are too poor to even have someone clean our apartment once a year.**Cries**
We've always had a nanny who cooks and cleans and runs errands as well as taking care of and picking us up. Now that I can take care of myself she mostly takes care of my brother, but I honestly do not know where I would be without her. She always knows where everything is, and where everyone is supposed to be, and when.
wouldn't joan crawford on a bender be exactly the same as joan crawford?
No, that would be Faye Dunaway.

The state provides me with a cleaning woman four hours a week as I am disabled. She is a lovely woman who is more like a friend to me. No, make that sister! I just don't know where I woul;d be without her. She also takes me shopping and helps with errands. She respects me a great deal and lets me work at what I can so I cam maintain my independence.
We had Maids during the years when I was growing up. I now have a person who comes in once a week to clean and Iron.

Where is PB ENT in this discussion? I know she's had long discussions about not being able to get good help in her comfortable corner of the world.
Everybody ought to have a serving girl

I was thinking more of the "Naked Maid" song in NAKED BOYS SINGING!
In my childhood my mum had what was called a mothers's help.)live in)(after the birth of her 3rd child) Part nanny part housekeeper. Often they were girls from up north trying for more of a life in the "Big City" some were great and were with us for 2-3 yrs. Others lasted only weeks- one never even came back for her little cardboard suitcase of clothes. Sad when you think of it.
Both my sis's had "nanny's" freq undocumented workers from the Carribbean. A couple were also frm Quebec - they were sweet kids)
It is NOT easy work, doubt I could do it NOT W MY BIG MOUTH!
No matter what. We still clean before the maid.
Don't want my sh*t on her resume...
Growing up, my mother had a maid. It was me.
Martha Stewart, eat your heart out. I can fold a shirt. And fold toilet paper. (I had little choice but to end up gay...)

But does she bake you really, really bad desserts that take hours to cook under a lone lightbulb?
...And the others are Raggedy Ann and Betsy Wetsy, right?
You ought to get together with SOMMS's mammy named Mamie.
Since we're naming names, here are the one's that I remember:
Grandma's weekly "cleaning woman" - Catherine
Dad's servants growing up:
Cook - Estelle
Chauffer - Luther
Nanny - "Miss Fox"
Since she's merely a servant, I insist that she make everything in the Easy Bake Oven. Just to make her really earn that pay.
"merely a servant?"
Okay, now you're losing me.
But I love the Easy Bake Oven part.
She was demoted from cleaning lady to servant after I caught her making Shrinky Dinks in the Easy Bake Oven.
