Posted: 2/13/07 at 9:05pmDoubletree Suites has a commercial airing which features a catchy song being sung by Dinah Washington, yet, I don't know the name of the song. Anyone have any clues? Thanks.

I would recommend you get the "Complete Dinah Washington on Verve" box set but for a tasty sample of Miss D, try this CD.
(Of course if you haven't heard her sing "What a Diff'rence a Day Makes" shame shame SHAME on you! Go get a best of collection with that on it, too!)

Posted: 2/13/07 at 9:41pmIt wasn't a hit. I sometimes weep at the fact that a song this good was considered a "filler" track 50 years ago. How far we have fallen.

Posted: 2/13/07 at 9:42pmI don't think you can go wrong with ANY recording of Ms. Washington's.

I found it on Amazon. What a great song. It's just so catchy. I'm going to have to order the CD. I love that there's a sample clip there, too.
Thanks again, JoeKv99!

Posted: 2/13/07 at 9:46pmSlightly on topic for this board, did anyone else see Lillias White do her almost one-woman show about Dinah? She was superb!!

Joe, are you referring to the off-Broadway show, "Dinah Was"? I saw that show, but with Yvette Freeman. I think Lilias replaced her when she left. It was a wonderful show, and what a wonderful artist Ms. Washington was. I remember the first time I heard a recording of hers. It was in 1992 and I was out to dinner with my boyfriend at that time, and I absolutely fell in love with her voice. I went out and bought one of her CDs the next day.

Yes-- I was in NYC on a Sunday night and TKTS had tickets so I raced down to some theatre in the garment district to see it. I got there and the marquee, the signs in the lobby, even the programs said "Starring Yvette Freeman."
So at intermission I went to the box office and said "Isn't that Lillias White in the title role?" They said of COURSE it was, why would I ask?? I pointed out the sign, the programs-- apparently someone forgot to use the right Playbills. As Act II started, there was an announcement "At this performance, the role of Dinah Washington is being played by LILLIAS WHITE!!!"

Posted: 2/13/07 at 10:16pmJoe, I saw a Sunday evening performance, too. I think I saw Yvette's last performance. I'm trying to think if she wrote or co-wrote the piece as well.
