re: DCA 1.1 bililon$ make over

This isn't a Disney message board so I doubt many people would know that DCA stands for Disney's California Adventure.

Also, please use punctuation in correct places.

i think this is the first time ive ever heard anyone talk about CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE in a positive way.

re: DCA 1.1 bililon$ make over

I've never heard of this. Around here DCA is the airport code for Reagan National Airport. They put millions into enlarging and redesigning that place and your post made me think they were dumping even more $$$ there!

Norn - we love DCA - we have from the beginning. It's been a little disheartening that to draw in the crowds, they've moved away from the original concept to basically become just an adjunct to Disneyland.

The only Disney t-shirt that I've actually agreed to pay the high price for was one celebrating 'Soarin' Over California' - one of my favorite rides. And we LOVE 'Screamin', the rollercoaster.

Good god.

I think they're actually making it worse.

They're going from "California Adventure" in... CALIFORNIA... which is like having a fake sunset right next to a real one...

...to Disneyland II, The Extension Across the Parking Lot.

Their original plan was to make this another Epcot, but on the West Coast. Such a shame they didn't.

they feel that there is not enough walt Disney in the park.the entrance is supposed to be like Main Street USA.

re: DCA 1.1 bililon$ make over

I just think they're turning it into the bastard stepchild of Disneyland, instead of giving it its own "theme."

It will now have more of an identity crisis than ever.

They should change its name to "Disney's California Confusion."

...with the slogan: "We don't know what we are, but come have fun anyway!"

well at least they are not adding a castle.but it should be seperate from disneyland. like all the other parks at WDW they
don't all represent the Magic Kingdom

re: DCA 1.1 bililon$ make over

But there already is a Main Street USA, right across the way.

I'm glad I saw it when I did.

re: DCA 1.1 bililon$ make over

I liked the park when I went this summer (mostly because it was not very crowded, which I am sure is not a positive for Disney) but these changes sound deplorable.
I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.

re: DCA 1.1 bililon$ make over

They're spending over a billion dollars only to give us MORE of what's wrong with it already.

re: DCA 1.1 bililon$ make over

I love DCA, and the changes (which I'd already heard about) sound horrible. I love the Sun Wheel!!!! As a SUN WHEEL, not a "Mickey Wheel." *sigh*

And DG, Jeff and I also love Soarin' and CA Screamin'. Awesome rides)

It was so nice to be able to go to a park WITHOUT tons of kiddie crap. Now I have to stare at Mickey's face? No Golden Gate Bridge? And they're getting rid of the giant letters, too, by the way. There will be no "California" at the entrance. So, what's the theme, exactly? Just as other have said, "Disneyland Lite."

Grrrrrrrrrr.

re: DCA 1.1 bililon$ make over

^You never posted the link.

Here's an easier to read rundown:
FRONT AREA:
-New entrance plaza to have Carthay Circle Theatre, showing a film about Walt Disney.

HOLLYWOOD:
-Mickey's Philharmagic replaces MuppetVision 3D.
-Hyperion Theatre to remodel side wait lines.
-Tower of Terror to remove some walls to add an entrance to...

CARS LAND
-A new 12-acre land new rides include a ride based on Test Track from Epcot, a ride with moving tires, and another ride. Not sure about A BUG'S LAND, but I hope it goes.

GOLDEN STATE
-New dining and shopping oppurtunities.
-Removal of Golden Dreams.

PARADISE PIER
-New Victorian seaside pier theme.
-New Little Mermaid ride using the OmniMover technology from the Haunted Mansion.
-Removal of Maliboomer and Orange Stinger.
-Re-theming of Mullholland Madness to Goofy's Flying School.
-Removal of Mickey ears from California Screamin'.
-Addition of other Mickey ears to Sun Wheel; to be named Mickey's Fun Wheel.
-New non-firework nightime spectacular for lagoon called "Disney's Wonderful World Of Color." A 9,000 seat area for the water show.

And of course, always more to come.

They're getting rido of the letters? Dammit! I really wish they can keep a California theme while playing Mickey's Philharmagic and a Little Mermaid ride. But then again, how is A BUG'S LAND Californian?

re: DCA 1.1 bililon$ make over

I think part of the semi-awesomeness of California Adventure was the very fact that it was like a painting of a sunset right next to the real sunset. It was so post-modern. It was almost making a commentary on itself, and theme parks in general.

Clearly they're on their way to dropping California from the thing completely. A Victorian era pier? I'm really glad I got my photos of the Sun Wheel, which was really beautiful in that incarnation.

re: DCA 1.1 bililon$ make over

"how is A BUG'S LAND Californian?"

The original concept, when the park first opened, was that this area showcased the California agriculture industry. They still have a little of the gardens, but most of the educational aspect has been stripped away (it was actually one of the first things in the park to be abandoned.)

As for the ride part of 'Bug's Land', it was one of two areas specifically geared toward small children. It's also where some of the greatest 'Imagineering' took place.

re: DCA 1.1 bililon$ make over

What makes me the most upset about all of this is the fact they they can't get this park right and they STILL plan on building a third park in the area, AND in the process are throwing around all sorts of lawsuits about keeping out low cost housing in the area.

What's the point of removing the ears from California Screamin'?
