I was watching the DVD again tonight, after hearing references to Hitler's one ball in another thread, looking forward to having some fun and some laughs.
I was stopped cold during her version of Stay With Me.
I always loved that song, and especially the way she sings it and appreciated how she understood that it could relate to so many different types of relationships.
I just started crying thinking of all of the people just a few years after this movie was released, who would be pleading this same refrain for all the wrong reasons.
I know that Bette became a huge voice in the fits against AIDS and HIV - I just wonder if she knew how prophetic this song would be.
It is just an amazing song.
another thing we have in common youwant........that song is one of the best things she's ever done......it never fails to put me in a place I rarely like to go.
Based upon our PM's this afternoon, it was not one of the things I wanted to hear.
It just gives me the chills.
But, I recover in time for Delores and:
The question before us, is where is her clitoris?
(I think that is it, or does she have a clitoris - I was laughing so loud I forgot to make sure!)
Talk about an ice-breaker!
And, I did not realize all the drama behind the filming of the movie. It could be a film all its own.

Bumping because Bette seems topical this morning.

I love "Devine Madness". Ijust picked up a second hand copy of "View from a broad" for, like, $3.00. It has to be one of the best books of it's kind-detailing a tour. It's like one of Bette's concerts.
Dolores Del Lago the Toast of Chicago, is one of my fav characters.....

That's an incredible performace of that song. I LOVE when she slaps the stage.
The times I've seen her perform the song live have been highlights as well.
sometimes between 1979 and 1981 I saw her live at the Greek Theater in LA. It was amazing...went with a bunch of friends, and my lover at the time who was raised in Hawaii, and part Hawaiian. (He went to HS with her, and the stories he'd tell)
When she did the part about how Haoles have a problem wrapping their lips around Hawaiian........words, EVERYONE we were with laughed and pointed at me.......was too funny

I saw her in Brisbane, Australia last year- and a great number of the audience were extremely conservative, older heterosexual couples, and towards the end of the evening she started paying tribute to the novel way Australians mangel up the English language and then proceeded to talk about, how should I say this without being edited and taken to task, calloquial terms for female genitalia. And this was straight after "Wind beneath my wings". I was screaming, while the elderly gent beside looked confused.
Elphaba - who knew - I think we were at the same concert.
I aslo saw her again a couple years later at the No Frills concert.
I love the way she sings this song too - especially in Diva Las Vegas.
yowant, if we were at the same concert, you could have saved me 2 more years of misery by telling me to RUN from the Hawaiian, lol
Had I known, I would have definately done my best.
Who knows, the guy I was with likes older men, perhaps we could have done a mix and match right there and then!
