There is nothing wrong with being proud about it and I salute you for it ! But don't let it be the only thing you project to others, because it can become tiresome ! I am sure you are also talented, sweet, smart, funny, sensitive and you have a lot of other qualities. So try to present them as well ! Up to now most of your posts are about your gayness ! I am sure you have a lot of other interests, so try to share those too ! :)

I don't feel any more proud of being gay than I would feel proud to be straight. It is who I am, but it does not define me. I think there are aspects of Gay Pride that are respectable, but most of the groups in the parades are more about sex and fetishes than Gay Pride.

I think Greekmusicalfan said it perfectly: it is wonderful to be a proud gay person (I am out and proud), but don't let it define you wholly as a person. My sexuality is only one part of who I am. Congrats to you!

You are very, very, very, very, very, very, very gay. I don't take that much pride in anything. Except maybe my parents.

re: Do people take as much pride as me in being gay?

Pride, to me, implies something that has been achieved. I didn't achieve my gayness, it just is. I'm certainly not ashamed of it, but pride doesn't apply to the situation for me. It would be like being proud of having blue eyes or being right-handed.

But I think that's just a semantics thing. The fact is, many (if not most) gay youth are raised being told there is something wrong with them, and it is something to be ashamed of. Therefore, as a counter-active measure, I fully understand the self-empowerment attached to the concept of gay pride.

i think it's great that you are proud of who you are, but like other memebrs have said, you can't focus on just that. just the fact that you're here means you have an intrest in theatre, so let people know that, too. talk about your favorite musicals, movies, books, bands you like to listen to, resturaunts you like to eat at, stuff like that. and yes, it is ok to talk about being gay, just not all the time. :)
i think it's also normal to be this loud-and-proud just after coming out too... kind of like it was all bottled up and it's like a pride explosion of sorts.

Matt, you said

I think there are aspects of Gay Pride that are respectable, but most of the groups in the parades are more about sex and fetishes than Gay Pride.

so are you saying sex, or fetishes are not respectable?

Your statement bothers me, as it as if you are saying there are good gay people and bad gay people, and frankly......I or, you, have no right to pass judgement on anyone. We may not agree with things they choose to do, but who am I, or you.....to say they are not "respectable" if they happen to have a certain fetish, or for that matter like sex?

This type of thinking is exactly what keeps us from being a united front.

re: Do people take as much pride as me in being gay?

Ditto what Mister Matt said.
"I don't really get the ending, all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang, and later she kissed him on the toilet, after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung, and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen, and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady? Please help me,thank u very much!" Quote from someone on IMDB in reference to a movie he/she didn't understand. Such grammar!

re: Do people take as much pride as me in being gay?

I'm intrigued by the fact that even though the designation of 'gay' refers to an act of sex, it is somehow deemed inappropriate that sex is a focus of Pride events. Without that differing point from the 'majority' there wouldn't be any point to it at all.
