re: Do you believe...

I would be scared if I lived in your old apartment, would've left right away... things aren't too bad around here, I'm lucky.

re: Do you believe...

1. Yes, I do.

2. No, I would not.

I grew up in a house that all members of my family agreed was haunted. This wasn't something my father would admit to. It wasn't until they had moved to another state and almost 15 years had passed that he admitted to having heard the ghosts himself.

We could all hear them at night. Two gentlemen, having a conversation. Clearly talking back and forth, occasionally laughing. Just clear enough to know they were talking but never clear enough to understand what was being said. It didn't matter where you were standing, it always sounded like it was coming from the next room.

One day I went up to the attic to look for something. With this attic you had to go up and pull down an electric cord and plug it into an outlet on the top floor of the house. (There was no outlet in the attic itself.) This would make the lights up there automatically come on. I lowered the stairs, went up to get the cord and looked up for a second and saw him standing at the top of the stairs. An old man, long gray coat, worn boots, slouch hat. Just standing there and staring down at me.

I've never before nor never since been as scared as I was just then! I fell down the stairs and hit the floor on the top story. I ran down the next stair, found a chair and collapsed in it. My heart felt like it was trying to jump out of my chest. My mother was in the kitchen and she heard the racket I'd made and came running in. I tried to tell her what I saw but I could only get bits and pieces out. She very calmly looked at me and proceeded to describe the same man I had seen - in detail. She had been down in the basement one day, doing the laundry. The dog was down there with her, keeping her company. He looked up and started growling lowly. She turned to see what was upsetting him and saw the man standing there. She dropped down to grab hold of the dog and when she looked back, he was gone. She never told anyone because she was certain that no one would believe her.

The people who bought the house from us said they continued to hear the ghosts every night. They tried as hard as we did to understand what they were saying, but they never could. At the time I had spoken to them, they had not seen the ghosts and they were disappointed at that. It didn't stop them from believing that the place was definitely haunted.

re: Do you believe...

Wow. I would've died of fear, but the ghosts don't sound like they're out to get you. I am very afraid of things I can't control, so I can't live with ghosts, even friendly ones. My house it mostly quiet nowadays, so I don't worry, though.

I love all these stories, by the way. Keep 'em coming!

re: Do you believe...

I don't think I believe in ghosts and evil spirits, but I do BELIEVE IN LIFE AFTER LOVE.

And if there had been such a thing as Sue's Answer Phone, "Those two kids would be alive today!".
