Do you own an entire television series on DVD?

"Rath, that's like asking people who collect music CDs if they really listen to all of them. Or book collectors if they really read all of them.

It's a collection, first and foremost."

That's my confusion. And listening to cd's is different as you can put them on your mp3 player and take them with you - you're listening as you're traveling throughout your day, waiting in line, etc. You can't do that with dvds.

You still didn't answer your own question posed to "us collectors" as to "how many times?"

(It's kind of a silly question, is my point.)

What's so hard to understand about a collection (of anything)?

Don't you have ANY collections? (dolls, stamps, photos, magazines, bugs, cast albums, Playbills)

And if you do, do you carry them around with you wherever you go?

And if you don't... why not?

Sure I've seen them all. Maybe not all the time, or some haven't been for awhile. But if it's a serious collection like say complete Buffy seasons 1-7, you're obviously a big fan. Therefore, if I'm in a mood for a random ep from season 3, I can just pull it out. There are still so many ways I want to watch Buffy/Angel, and I have that ability. I've worn out my Freaks & Geeks set. Only 18 eps, but still...they're golden to me. Sitcom dvds are a breeze to get through too.

Thanks cabarethed - I understand what you're saying, it totally makes sense and I can relate to it. My question is for the people who have HUGE collections.

I understand the question, Rath. I wondered about it myself. I do understand 'collections' and they certainly don't take up the room that some other types of collections do. (Honestly - my regular UPS guy told me he collects TRACTORS. Not tractor models - but real tractors!)

At one time I had all the episodes of Sex and the City. After I'd seen them a couple of times I realized that I probably wouldn't ever watch them again, so I sold them on eBay. I really enjoy watching the Buffy series - in order, and usually 2 or 3 episodes at one time. I keep The Nanny because I can pop those in at any time I feel like having a good laugh for a half hour or so. So mine aren't any kind of collection. I really do watch them.

Rath

I do - and I also lend them to friends that want to catch up.

Thing is - I don't watch a lot of tv and until last year, didn't have TIVO. I've been suggested various shows to watch but with many these days, they are serial and I have little desire to start watching in the middle.

Buying the shows on DVD, I'm able to watch an entire season pretty quickly, no commercials and at my own pace. Especially useful for something with a story arc as it's enjoyable not to have to wait an entire year for a story to play out.

That's in regards to my personal TV collection on dvd.

I do have some series that I just enjoy the writing and for either nostalgia sake (Muppet Show Volumes 1-15; Will & Grace) or whatnot, I have them so I can enjoy them from time to time. I don't necc watch the entire season/series - but at various times I might pop one in, lend the series to a friend or while travelling, take one with me.

Again, for me, most of the tv selection in my library has to do more with convenience of being able to watch the seasons/series in a timely manner.

Sure there's netflix - but many times these seasons are sold cheaply and I figure for $24 or so per set, much better investment than renting and going by some other company's timeframe to watch.

Then there are a few I have that will probably never be available any other way and I wanted them. Like my "From the Earth to the Moon" series and "Taken"

See, to each their own, but I think there are parts of Frasier that are very very funny. oftentimes it can be repetitive, but I think i'ts all worth it to look at David Hyde piercce for 264 episodes or thereabouts...
