A guilty pleasure, but I'm watching this movie today... and it's not the bloated mess that many (back in the day) said it was.
It's a charming, tuneful adventure. The songs are WAY above average, and the story is solid, entertaining and well-told.
And Harrison, Newley and Attenborough are fantastic. So's Eggar and the kid... oh, and Holder! Perfection.
I can see why it got a Best Pic nomination... and even if it flopped at the box office, it deserves another chance now.
Winner of two Oscars (Special Effects and Best Song "Talk To the Animals") and nominated for SEVEN others: Picture, Editing, Art Direction, Cinematography, Sound, Original Score and Adaptation!
Anyone else love being swept away and thoroughly entertained by this film?
And the song "When I Look In Your Eyes," deceptively simple, is one of the most haunting put on film. Music and lyrics don't get better than that.
