Anybody else see the last 45 minutes through tears? Or just me?

I didn't cry, but I am feeling a bit drained. What an amazing episode.

The presence of "the weapon"--which was just a sentimental reaction--combined with the intensity of the big decision really got to me.

I thought the 3 of them turned in superb performances. Matt Smith has really grown up.

Spoilers ahead:

I teared up too, though not as much as I would've had I been watching alone (I had a Whovian friend to watch with). I loved that they mentioned Capt. Jack and that Tom Baker made an appearance at the end! To be honest, the only slight disappointment was that Billie Piper wasn't really Rose, but an embodiment of her/Bad Wolf/the Moment. But Ten's face when the War Doctor called out to her about broke my heart- he knew she was there and he couldn't see her. And the fact that Ten's last words said onscreen are still "I don't want to go"? Yup. That one set me off.

All in all, it was beautiful and fitting and better than I expected. And I'm going to miss Matt Smith very much after Christmas.

I was just happy to see her.

I do find it perplexing, though: why would the weapon assume HER form as an interface for Hurt's Doctor? She means nothing to him.

The interface made some comment about never getting it right, being from a person's past or future. I assumed the interface was supposed to take the form of someone extremely important to the person potentially wielding the weapon, but its consciousness wasn't very good at finding a figure from the corresponding part in the timeline. So she meant nothing to the War Doctor, but would be (arguably) the most important person for both Nine and Ten, plus her Bad Wolf powers.

Yes--you're right. I forgot that she made that comment about past/future.

It's all moot though; she was really there for us.

Other than the monster (who really brought nothing to the story), I thought it was amazing. So glad to see Tennant back in the pin stripe suit and I loved him and Matt's interaction. Plus, evem though she wasn't the Rose we all know, I enjoyed watching her far more than when she was in the last episode of Season 4. I also loved how, even though we didn't have 3D glasses on, the paintings were still in 3D. "I don't want to go" also broke my heart. i love Matt Smith but Tennant will always be my Doctor. Plus, did you notice the 12th (13th?) Doctor for a second. Nice inclusion.

What a great piece that was! It was captivating from the first minute and never lost me for a moment. I loved all the little touches, like the girl wearing the fourth doctor's scarf. But above all, I felt that if I had no previous exposure to the world of the doctor and all of the things added to please the fans went over my head, I would have still enjoyed it immensely. The story was compelling, and the actors were simply brilliant all-around. I thought this episode truly showed why Doctor Who has lasted all these years and is still so popular: it's just so damn good, and there's nothing else quite like it.

When Hurt said it was The Bad Wolf, the look on Ten's face was heart breaking.

I also love the inclusion of Peter Capaldi, it made me so excited for his Doctor.

What about Tom Baker as the curator -- or was he the curator? Baker was before my time as a Who fan (I came onboard during the 10-Martha season), but I'm well aware of how beloved the Fourth Doctor is. Moffat really outdid himself with this fantastic episode.

Edited to add a link for the Baker scene for those who want to see:

I, too, thought the balance of New Episode integrity vs. 50th Anniversary schmaltz was perfect. Plenty of archival moments and references for them that want/get them--probably way more than I realize, as I've seen only a handful of old-Who episodes--but an outstanding installment in the current story arc.

Ultimately, the hugely important moments in the story were made possible only by the very fact of the Doctor's history and the existence of all the previous Doctors--what better way to pay tribute to them all than to make them a crucial part of the Answer???

Moffat frequently hides clues and tropes in plain sight--it is only with the knowledge of a later episode or event that they become legible. The earlier Doctors all (?) appeared in similar fashion in 'Nightmare in Silver' and 'Name of the Doctor', which helped to make their appearance last night seem familiar--in a good way--as well.

Having Tom Baker--the earliest, living doctor--make an appearance was wonderful, and I thought he played his part to perfection.

What up with Christopher Eccleston? I'm not aware of his attitude about the whole thing, but one certainly gets the sense that his involvement was limited to the absolute minimum required by the small print in his contract. Did he dislike being the Doctor?

ETA: Nevermind--a simple Google search produced reams of commentary about Eccleston's refusal to participate and the ire, dismay and disappointment of the Who-niverse.

Anybody else cry watching the regeneration last night? I thought the episode itself was alright- not perfect, not bad- but Eleven's speech at the end broke my heart a little. Looking forward to seeing what Capaldi does with the role, and glad they solved the regeneration limit problem.

Yes, I cried. Loved Matt's Doctor, and was sorry to see him go. The tears flowed especially hard when Amy showed up -- in fact, "Raggedy Man" was trending for many hours on Twitter!! Look forward to seeing how Capaldi does with the role.

I love what they did to Matt's (gorgeous) hair.

Well--no. I didn't love it, but I loved the implicit acknowledgement that they know that we all love him for his hair...

Apparently, there is a world of 'Wholock' fandom out there, bringing to fruition what I thought was a dirty, personal fetish fantasy--a meeting of the Doctor and Benedict Cumberbatch's superb incarnation of Sherlock Holmes.

Talk about the promise of the Internet being fulfilled--here's a fan-created clip in which Sherlock Holmes and the Doctor finally meet.

There are a few less-than-perfect moments--Matt Smith's mouth sometimes seems more Muppet-like than human--but as someone who can barely get legible candid shots of my dog with an iPhone, I think this is, basically, Magic.

There is also a video that shows some of the steps in making the clip. Again--one would have to have far more savvy than I to understand what they are allegedly "revealing" in the clip. It's just more sorcery to me.

If you can't decide which Moffattian hero's initials to link with yours in little hearts all over your Social Studies notebook, maybe this will help.
