I just watched FAT GIRLS and RED WITHOUT BLUE.

FAT GIRLS provided nothing I can use. I found it to be cute, but nothing to go out of your way to see. A mild film. Story needed more development.

RED WITHOUT BLUE, on the other hand, is a remarkable story in a very interesting documentary. Not so much what I'm looking for - they merely mentioned their troubles in society as it wasn't the focus of the film. Still, great story and I hope Mark and Clair have found happiness. :)

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I saw pieces of a documentary on LOGO yesterday called CAMP OUT. It centered around a church camp for gay teens, though it wasn't all based on religion. Not sure if it's available on DVD. What I saw was pretty interesting.

Thanks, I have added U.S. OF ANT and CAMP OUT to my Netflix queue.

Has anyone seen THE MUDGE BOY? The synopsis seems as if it may be exactly what I am looking for...

I just watched U.S. OF ANT (all 7 episodes on the DVD) and it was quite entertaining. I *love* the concept of the show and ANT has a perfect balance of sincerity and hilarity. Plus, there were several segments that I can use for my research. Finally, I have something I can use!

We watched one in my Sociology of Deviant Behavior class called Gay Youth. Really good.

I cannot find "Gay Youth" on Netflix nor on IMDB. re: Documentaries concerning youth homophobia/being gay?

THE MUDGE BOY was an OK film but didn't provide anything I can use.

I CAN'T MARRY YOU had poor production values, but when you got past that, provided a nice glimpse at how the situation affects people (ban of gay marriage).

TYING THE KNOT was a much better documentary about gay marriage but also presented nothing I can use.

I also watched the entire series of OPEN BAR which provided nothing I can use. This was an interesting program, though.

Jeez, the only thing I have found so far was U.S. OF ANT.

That "True Life" clip is hysterical. I burst out laughing when it cut to his friend's interview for the first time and she's just like, "yeah, I've known he was gay since I first met him. Everyone who knows him knows. Obviously."

"I just want a story and a few good songs that will take me away. I just want to be entertained. I mean, isn't that the point?"

Also watched TREVOR and THE LARAMIE PROJECT. TREVOR was sweet but is not what I am looking for. LARAMIE PROJECT was a great documentary and I will probably show it.

I just saw For The Bible Tells Me So. It's excellent. I highly recommend it even if one isn't religious because, like it or not, the anti-gay Christians of the world affect our community so greatly--especially the gay youth.

A GIRL LIKE ME: The Gwen Araujo Story
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0787484/

He was just who she was. Plot:The true story of a young transgendered teen and his self discover-ment of living life as a woman.

Her story hits hard for me, as she lived only 10-blocks away from me... and it occurred the same month I came-out as a high school gay boy. I attended her memorial service and stared the hateful Phelps clan right in the face. Her death also occurred the same time a local high-school did a production of The Laramie Project, also picketed by the Phelps clan. It was frightening, having these things happening in my hometown. And knowing that us "different" ones were being murdered so close to my relatively safe suburb in the Bay Area.

Thanks Eug -- I'll check that one out. So sorry to hear about that!

Yes, Phelps and his church also came to picket my High School's production of LARAMIE PROJECT. It was so difficult to not only have them there, but to see their kids (as young as 5-ish!) holding up those signs of hatred not knowing what they are saying.
