For some strange reason, I've been getting TIME magazine in the mail, even though I've never subscribed to it. As I've been flipping through and reading the articles, I've noticed that it's more conservative than I remembered when I used to read it years ago. Do you guys consider TIME a conservative periodical?

Complicated question. Conservatives talk about a liberal bias and liberals complain about a conservative bias.

The truth is that the media generally sides with the status quo, because they rely on the cooperation of the people in power to feed their readers "inside" information.

The Bush Administration has abused this power over the media, actually putting some journalists on the government payroll (Armstrong Williams) and getting others to fall on their swords for them (Judith Miller).

So mainstream media like Time, the NY Times and the Washington Post will often have articles that quote "unnamed government sources" and present the Republican point-of-view, even to the point of seeming like press releases or talking points.

Do they lean to the right? Yes--and the will until the pendulum swings to the left.
