Okay, I thought of something I've been wondering about tonight because I keep seeing ads for some upcoming fight. (But I've always wondered about it, really.)
Why do people like to watch boxing?

I'm both a boxing and tennis fan because in most cases both are individual sports, doubles notwithstanding. There are so many similarities between the two sports that are quite obvious to anyone who's attempted both.
In a strange way, a part of boxing's appeal to me is that it's at times primal. I'm amazed that it doesn't appeal more to folks who are obsessed with reality TV.

I also like the primal aspect to it. I prefer to watch lightweight men's boxing though.

I personally don't watch it. But I did see the fight where Mike Tyson bit Holyfield's ear off.
Yuck.

Personally I haven't the slightest idea why folks like boxing, but a lot of my guy friends have recently gotten into watching the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Mixed Martial Arts/ Cage fighting. If you want to see something truly heinous and quite frankly scary...then the UFC is it. I think they honestly just enjoy the sheer brutality of it all getting to watch someone "tap out" or lose consciousness from a choke hold. And get beaten to a bloody pulp. EWWWW!!!

I have mixed feelings about boxing. The boxing episode of 'Battlestar Galactica' was one of the most boring forty-five minutes I've spent over the last year, but the boxing arc of 'Oz' was a great opportunity to see a lot of hot men with no shirts on.
But then, boxing was just one of MANY excuses the men of 'Oz' would use for shirtlessness, so it's not like their fine physiques would have continued to be covered had they not done it. So perhaps boxing is boring and pointless after all...
