I've been trying to buy songs off iTunes but to do that I have to upgrade it. I tried to do that, but the program needs 37 gigs to do that, and my PowerBook only has 30 gigs available. Is there a way to get around this?

This isn't a Mac problem, really. The simplest thing to do is clean out any unneeded files and programs from your hard drive. And are you sure it needs 37 gigs? That seems way too high- my entire hard drive is a little over 38 gigs, and it handles iTunes just fine.
Well, that's what it said when I tried to install it. The same thing happened when I hooked my iPod up the first time, but I just did it anyway and it worked fine.
38 gigs definitely is way too high. Maybe they meant 38 mb. I have a mac and have the latest version of iTunes, and it definitely didn't take up 38 gigs.
Oh no, it said gigs. It wouldn't let me install it because of that.

Considering the fact that the entire Windows operating system takes up about 1.5 gigs, something's wrong here. How big is your music collection?
what version of the mac os are you using? a friend of mine occassionally was having trouble with her powerbook on 9.2.2 getting messages very similar to yours. it was in a completely different program, but it was the same thing of suggesting that outrageous amounts of memory were required to accomplish a task.
i suggest that you visit the apple support discussion forums and search using terms from the error message. that's how i solve 90% of my problems because chances are someone else out there has had the exact same problem.

i suggest you start with either itunes or powerbooks and make sure you are searching for answers that are appropriate to your operating system.

Oh, yeah! The message boards are nice, even if they didn't help me when I used them.
My music collection is around 500 megs, and it operates on OS 10, if memory serves.
Thank you, guys! I'll look into your suggestions.
