I remember watching a movie (made sometime between the late '60s and the early '80s, possibly later) involving a woman who always saw a rodent whenever she looked at her little girl. At the end of the film, she smothers the little girl to death. The authorities find her in the room with the little girl spread across her lap and wearing nothing but white panties.
I remember watching this with my mother, who commented: "That's why they should have more protection laws for children of mentally ill parents" or something like that.
