Has anyone auditioned for college or a conservatory doing a song that you are normally not supposed to do, like one from Cabaret, Phantom, Les Miz, etc. and still gotten in? Thanks

my voice lessons teacher told me about a girl they saw last year at otterbein who sang "the sound of music" and they invited her to be part of the program.
My voice teacher also told me that if you really are good it doesnt matter. If you have an amazing voice, they will notice and will not just reject you for picking a song that is done a lot or "shouldnt be done"

i think the key words in catie's post are "if you have an amazing voice"
you have to know you're going to be the best they've ever heard on that song.
also, the other thread you posted is pretty much discussing this same topic right now.
