Donna Murphy Wins Tony for FOLLIES!

Since I'm tired of complaining about the dull-as-hell Tony Awards ceremony I have decided to celebrate Donna Murphy's imaginary win for her star turn as Phyllis Stone in the Encores! concert of FOLLIES.
How could you not vote for Juicy Lucy?

And other headlines you would like to see...
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Tell me about it, WW11. Maybe next season?
She's certainly ready to take the podium.

If they bring Follies to Broadway (please God!), she probably could.

It will be funny when we resurrect this thread next year and it actually happens.

Oh, you know I'll be all over it, Munk. Today is for a chuckle, next year it may be an actual celebration.

My favorite part of her acceptance speech was when she thanked Ray and Norn from BroadwayWorld for inspiring her to show up every day.

If this were to return, I will fly back to NYC and see it at least five times.

re: Donna Murphy Wins Tony for FOLLIES!

I think a revival of FOLLIES is doomed from the start. While I love the score, love the premise, etc. of the show, it's one of those shows for which the legend of the original production is gargantuan and hard to overcome.

I also don't think we have a dearth of along-in-years stars to fill the secondary roles. I mean, who would you cast for "Carlotta" that would have box office clout? Bonnie Franklin? Audrey Landers? Lauren Chapin?

re: Donna Murphy Wins Tony for FOLLIES!

I saw FOLLIES in London (87) - McKenzie/Rigg and PalJoey's Goddess. Loved Act I and maybe I was too young to understand Act II. Maybe it was just flat.
I'm one of the few who really liked the Gregory Harrison revival. Yes, it was not as lavish as the legendary original production but it certainly cast its spell.
I would absolutely want to see a Clark/Murphy revival.

re: Donna Murphy Wins Tony for FOLLIES!

I'd like to vote for not re-reviving shows that have been revived within the past 20 years...how about that?

Why not have Murphy play Desiree or Charlotte?

Maybe Cybill Shepherd could be Carlotta.

I'd rather see Fantasia.

re: Donna Murphy Wins Tony for FOLLIES!

No Fantasia talk on this thread, we don't want Virgo or dream on to come rain on my pretty FOLLIES parade.
Kringas, I'm with you, if this show were to return I would have to fly to NYC every other week for five times before it closes (which would probably be in two months considering it's FOLLIES).
I don't think the '01 revival counts. Having FOLLIES back on Broadway with Murphy stopping the show with "Could I Leave You?" every night--not to mention her one-liners--is just too good to miss.
And PalJoey, that was my favorite part of her speech too re: Donna Murphy Wins Tony for FOLLIES!

re: Donna Murphy Wins Tony for FOLLIES!

Please, Follies revival? At this rate the only Follies revival we'd be getting is a "minimalist" reproduction of it and would we really want that? It would be like choosing death or life support a la musicals.

When Phyllis strides around during "Could I Leave You?" would you really want to see her wielding a trombone while Ben reacts coldly with a triangle in hand just to show how cynical-haha-funny he can be?!
