Okay, so I was given a pair of tickets to see the Donny and Marie Christmas Show at the Oriental theatre in Chicago. So, I took my mother knowing this was going to be a tough Christmas for us and thought it would bring a little fun and cheer. The seats were second row center and during one of those predictable audience participation moments, Marie chose a man to join her on stage to sing and dance in a good-natured moment of silliness. Well, that man was ME! And being a long-time admirer of this good-natured brother/sister performing act as well as embracing my inner dork, I had SO MUCH FUN! More importantly, my mom was overjoyed. The audience was encouraged to give me a standing ovation (that's going on my resume) and we were invited to meet Donny backstage after the show. And yes, even up close, he looks AMAZING for his age.

Even without the surprise command performance, the show itself really is highly entertaining and they still know how to work the audience with charisma, talent and charm. And the extra bonus turned this year around for us by giving us a jubilant and unforgettable experience for which I'll always be grateful.

Matt I am green with envy! That sounds like an amazing experience. It couldn't happen to a nicer guy! I can only imagine the joy your mother felt. I wish I was there!!!

That is so totally cool, MM! I met them both on an elevator when they hosted the Miss America Pageant -- nicest people ever!

I too have had a few encounters with Donnie and can agree- spectacularly pleasant individual. And the show has gotten wonderful reviews! Congrats on the "Cameo" Matt!

I doubt it was filmed. It was in the Oriental Theatre, which is similar to the Broadway theatres and I didn't see any cell phones or cameras out in the audience. The ushers were pretty diligent in their placement around the theatre.

Regardless, I don't think I'd like to see a video. It's sort of like filming yourself having sex. You're having a great time and think you look awesome and then you watch. Totally not what you were expecting to see.

Bill Nighy said something similar when I heard him interviewed recently. Not being a professional I struggle to understand the strength of character it takes to perform and the reluctance to watch the result.

And when I say perform, I mean on stage not between the sheets. I'm not trying to imply that you're, errrr, ummmmm, errrrr, never mind. Although I'm sure you're absolutely, oh, errrrr, right, fine, don't even go there.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I'm sure everyone thinks I'm totally hot and insanely talented. I just have that actorexia thing where what you see about yourself is somehow totally different than what others are seeing.

Haha no I can totally relate, particularly when it's something you really felt you pulled off--or spontaneously enjoyed--and then you see some youtube or home filming of it and it nearly spoils the entire memory.
Does Marie still have the cry on cue monologue about her son who comitted suice? :P I'm glad you had a great time!
