Posted: 8/5/08 at 5:20amIt also has to do with the tonal quality of your voice, not necessarily your range (although that also plays a part). Example: Linda Eder is a mezzo belter but can still hit a top F above top c (which she does in her rendition of Man of la Mancha). That doesn't make her a sop though, as her vocal tonal quality is - mezzo.
