I mentioned in an earlier post that I was participating at this years Kennedy Center Honors. I just returned from the actual show and right now I'm kind of speechless. We spent many hours rehearsing for our segment to honor Ruby Dee and Ozzie Davis. Audra McDonald was the soloist (a real treat). She sang magnificently and looked absolutely gorgeous. Personally I felt our rehearsals went better than the actual performance, but such is show biz.
Saw Caroline Kennedy backstage and passed Billy Joel in the stairwell (he performed during the Elton John segment).
I will post more tomorrow as the experience is just beginning to settle in. I was definitely honored to be a part of this. Having the President et al. there and the secret service was a bit overwhelming (in terms of the repeated and necessary security we had to go through).

Posted: 12/5/04 at 10:44pmThanks, Addy. It all seems very surreal right now. I kept on saying to myself throughout, "I can't believe I'm singing in this venue with all these people in attendance."

Posted: 12/6/04 at 12:08pmI certainly did. I watched the news coverage when I got home last night and there were people there I wasn't even aware of. To me it still feels like a dream. I can't wait to see the actual show on television, because maybe by then it will feel more real.

Thanks everyone. I will definitely give hints: first one, I'm wearing black!!! I'm not sure what kind of camera angles there will be, but I'm sure there will be a pan shot of the entire stage. Just know that Dottie is actually up there!!!!
On a side note, some of those secret services guys were really, really cute.

Posted: 12/7/04 at 6:11pmOh, I also forgot to mention the autograph hounds...I was at the Kennedy Center three different times over the weekend (early AM, late afternoon, etc.) be it for rehearsal or for the performance itself and I saw the same people each and every time waiting for autographs!! Though they were forced to leave prior to the President's arrival.
