Drinking Coffee....

So to those who drink coffee or other hot liquids, wanna help me out?
For some acting class, we need to think of 5 sensory responses for each sense when you drink a hot beverage. Then we need to like act it out, lol. Whatever...
I just think 5 for each freaking sense is excess. Here is what I have come up with though...
Taste - I could think of sweet and a bit sour (i drink lemon and honey tea).
Smell - I honeslty couldn't smell anything but the steam in my face. And that's it.
Hearing - The sound of me blowing on the tea to cool it down, the sound of me grabbing the cup, the sound of the tea going back and forth in the cup as I drank it, going down my throat, etc...
Sight - anything you see when eyes are open, fairly simple.
Touch - Heat... against whatever it is, hand, face, nose, chest, throat, etc.
So yea, if anyone could help me out with some ideas of sensory responses, i'd be very grateful. I really just need help with smells and taste the most (in that order). Touch is easy and sight, well we are using that with everything we do when we have our eyes open, so yea.
Anywayz, heeeelp me!

That is all part of the creative process that you're supposed to be learing to tap into inside yourself. Having us help you is defeating the purpose.

Hmm... really? Well I don't actually drink coffee, so that might be the reason for the lack of a lot chest hair. lol.
I only drink coffee I need to have energy and had like 2 or less hours of sleep... than I'll drink a good 3+ cups and be good. Slept for 30 minutes once this summer cuz where i was there was no AC and it was a good 105 where i was sleeping. I couldn't fall asleep (heat sucks). So needed to do things requiring energy the next day, drank 5 cups of coffee. Considering I never drink coffee period... I felt really good that day, cept for when I just dropped asleep by 8pm that night.
Anywayz back to helping me on my assignment!

I've tried and I gues I'm not creative enough... but here's my list: Skipping sight and touch, sight is everything you see, touch is basically heat against whatever it is, hand, face, lips, tongue, throat, chest, etc.
btw, I drank a frikin cup of tea to think of this and still couldn't think of effin taste or smell, hearin wasn't too bad.
I tried, I seriously did.
Smell being and taste were hard, first off because they are so linked with each toher and secondly because the tea is supposed to be really hot. When a liquid is that damn hot, I cna't taste or smell anyhting but the heat. So I cna't think of 5 things. Even if I could... with anyhting I can't smell or taste 5 different things.
I dunno, maybe I'm not being creative enough, but I'm stuck and need help. I know i am suppose to think of this myself, but I did try. I'm not just coming here not having tried... and looking for an easy way out. I'm drawing complete blanks, honestly.
*and yes, I know I'm suppose to reenact the sensations of drinkin the hot liquid myself, but I already know what I'm going to do... what I said above. I'm not going to think of different smells and what not, because I personally can't think of anything else. I also can't really think of anymore tastes, BUT I need to write this down. So because he wants us to have written it down, I need to give him all 5... whether or not I think of them while doing this or even think they apply to me is a different story.

I guess I sohuld just try again, but I got frustrated with the fact that we needed 5 for each thing, when my sense of smell seriously could feel nothing more than the heat. Heat and the sense of touch from it (whether it be the liquid on my tongue, or breathin in the steam, attempting to smell something) overpowers my other two senses. So that is why I'm stuck where I am. Maybe I just can't get in touch with my smell/taste senses well enough, but when something is really hot (which is what he wants and what I actually tried to figure out), all I can feel, smell, taste, etc is the heat.
That's for me at least. So if worst comes to worst, that's what I'll say... because it was the best I could do. I'll try again I guess though, not now, but sometime later and see what I can think of.

Posted: 10/8/05 at 8:04pmTry drinking coffee, tea isn't going to help you if you are supposed to be drinking coffee. Coffee has its own smell, its own taste. You can't do the assignment unless you go through the process. Suck it up and drink the coffee. Take notes over your experiences. If you hate it then go ahead and write about how awful it tastes and smells to you.

Posted: 10/8/05 at 8:23pmThink of the depth of the tastes. Everything has more than one layer. Have you ever seen Sideways, and how they describe the wines they are drinking? Well, if you really try you can do that with a lot of things. Even when I'm drinking really hot tea or coffee that burns my tongue, I can still taste it as I breath in to take a sip. And think about the non-obvious. There's more to touch that hot or cold, and more to touch than using your hands. There's more to site than just "brown coffee". Does the color change as you steep the tea, add the honey, etc.? And try inhaling the vapor. What do you smell in the steam? Obviously the heat has some scent, so try and identify it as something other than "tea". And maybe try turning off all other sounds and closing your eyes so you can really focus on the taste, touch, and smell. I'm assuming that the reason you need five things is that you have five senses.

ok, I'll try drinking coffee... the professor just said to drink any hot liquid, altho first mentioned coffee. I like tea so just did that, but tomorrow I'll try dirnking some coffee and see if it helps.
And thanks for the help pnd, I'll try those things to really get each sense working by itself to figure it out. If I focus maybe it'll work. I never saw sideways but I do know there are people who are wine tasters and what not... a lot of people are really sensitive to taste and smell. I am too sometimes, I just think the heat of something takes away from that because touch overpowers my other senses. Maybe I'll try drinking it more of a bearable, warm temperature and see what I taste, smell. Than do it hot to see the difference and see if I can taste/smell the same things even with the heat.
Well, don't have coffee with me now or else might try it, but will do it tomorrow.
Thanks for advice everyone.

HAHAHA...oh the coffee cup exercise.
And for what someone else said earlier, just because the coffee cup exercise isn't for you, doesn't mean you shouldn't be acting -it just may mean that Strasberg is not your best friend :0)
