They announced about 5 minutes ago that "Dru is home" they don't specify if she's dead or alive though

Condolensces to her family and friends. Hopefully the guy they have in custody is her real killer.

Not to sound insensitive, but here's a question: Why was her disappearance national news? Of all the disappearances, why are these types of missing persons reports making huge headlines? Laci Peterson, Dru Sjodin, and lately that Seiler girl, who allegedly faked her abduction and might be charged. Is this an issue of race? Social class? Beauty? All of the above? None of the above?

Yep...I think that's exactly what it is, lyric. And lets not forget that little beauty queen from Denver a few years back. Events like this that happen to pretty girls from the upper middle class...particularly the white upper middle class...seem to be lightening rods for national interest.

In May of 1970, there were incidents on two college campuses, Kent State and Jackson State, where students were killed by 'the law' during student protests. The students at Kent were all white, and the Jackson State students black. Guess which story has a book (by James Michener), a song (Ohio by CSNY), and was the movie of the week...

It doesn't change the fact that the stories covered are tragedies. There are just SO many more that don't pique the public's attention (ie sell papers). Of course, it might also be also be considered a tragedy that Laci, et al, tend to become fodder for those sleazy gossip tabloids in the grocery checkout line with every aspect of their person lives, true and fictionalized, sensationalized in large bold print. Wanna bet this happens to Dru, too?

The blonder the victim, the "greater" the tragedy.
Sick & sad but true.

And this also holds true for Matthew Shepherd.
If he had been anything other than a handsome and slender "All American" boy-next-door, there would have been much less public outcry.
