Which one were you into?
I wasn't alive, but Dynasty's bitchiness would probably have pulled me in.
Such a hard choice, the Carringtons or the Ewings... well I must say, even though I was quite young at the time, I always did have a huge admiration of Joan Collins. But you can't beat the whole "Who Shot J.R.?" thing. Still it would have to be Dynasty. Updated On: 10/4/04 at 08:41 PM

I was a Dallas fan.
Let's give Gov a pass. A sweet affectionate child it is. :)
"Crystal, today's my wedding day!" LOL
My question is when are they gonna release THAT(Dynasty) on dvd? b/c I sure would get it. Man I can't tell you how much I loved that show. Alexis (Joan Collins) was the main reason I loved it! That might explain a lot about my current personality... Updated On: 10/4/04 at 08:58 PM
Okay, another question. How did you feel about Donna Reed in the role of Miss Ellie? I think she only replaced Barbara Bel Geddes for one season.
Dynasty. This show needs a DVD release ASAP.
Kirby Alicia Anders Colby : You bitch!
Alexis Morrell Carrington Colby Dexter Rowan : If I am, take a lesson from me, you may need it in life
Rowan? I must have missed the last season. :)
Just in case anyone's interested...

I loved both of them but to be honest with you DYNASTY has not held up well. I was watching re-runs on SoapNet recently and just couldn't sit through a whole episode. I loved Pamela Sue Martin as "Fallon", especially in the beginning. Who doesn't love a girl who actually slept with the whole football team...LOL. DALLAS on the other hand has held up for me, especially the first couple of years. I guess I'm biased with DALLAS because I hade a MAJOR crush on Victoria Principal.
Dallas had better story lines and much better acting. Dynasty was your typical Aaron Spelling mess.
In the 80's, Dynasty was a gay man's wet dream.
Dallas and then Knot's Landing. Michelle Phillips and Nicolette Sheridan made every Thursday evening special for me.
My friend Deborah, who is one of the "Ladies" who will be at the "Ladies of P.S. Classics" signing and performance today, was on Dallas for 11 years - she played Phyllis, Bobby's secretary.
Dy-nasty !!!
I agree that DYNASTY hasn't held up well -- which oddly enough, has proven to be part of its enduring charm. Revisiting it on Soapnet, an episode a day, you could see how indifferently it was written. And how the story would grind along until someone (ABC in the beginning, then Spelling later, no doubt, once it became a hit)came down hard, and changed its direction. Many times. In general you learn a lot about weekly soaps when they're re-airded daily, because you see how oddly things were emphasizied. Dynasty is no exception. Blake's sourness and downright evil behavior (marital rape, homphobic murder, etc.) the first few years was eventually removed. Once he and Krystal had perfume/cologne to sell, theirs was "...the love that will live forever..." or some such. He had to become Reagan -- anyone notice?
The younger characters were just odd, and never worthy of being very front n'center. The men were so passive -- the puffy-lipped Jeff the leading very weak example -- floating in/around the breakfast table, holding down vague jobs, allowing their kids to be raised by servants. He always seemed to have a hangover. Primetime's first gay man, Stephen, was one of the dreariest creations. Nobel, dull, everyone's tedious blind date. He had to be model perfect, and he was almost creepy. The only interesting people were the crazies (though they were hated when the show aired) -- Claudia my favorite. She was a first -- a low energy nut case. She'd freak out and become catatonic, thinking a doll was her baby. She was supposed to be such a femme fatale. Yet she could walk into a room and suck all of the air out of it, while controlling all of these lives. Poor Pamela Bellwood -- she never worked again. And I loved the Paul Burke character, who dressed up as Alexis to kill someone. (I think...)
There isn't much fresh to say about the Collins' Alexis creation. Sure, she became the reason to watch the show, but they had a helluva time putting her with men, save Dex. She always looked like a drag queen in her "love" scenes, her wet lips brushing up against some poor guy. Why, I wonder, did they end up with that haridresser type as her final man? She actually needed Larry Hagman, JR to whip her into shape -- wouldn't that've been a crossover dream. But even she had a stsrange impact -- when you watch the show now, it's startling to witness the way she de-balled Blake again and again. I think of them as Margaret Thatcher and Ronnie Reagan -- the perfect 80s dynamic.
I just loved how efficient and nice Phyllis was. And, what great hair!

Auggie - just a question - I always thought Jodie (Billy Crystal) on SOAP was the first prime-time recurring gay role.
I knew Al Corley - who played the original Steven Carrington on Dynasty.
short version of a long story - I was a teacher then, had Sally Taylor in my class, Al Corely was living with her mother, Carly Simon. He used to help me chaperone field trips - and I spent some time with them during the summer on Martha's Vineyard.
Anyway - he was gorgeous. And nice. Dumb blonde. But nice.
