Someone PM'd me to say this about that blocked poster:

"There he goes again."

I know I shouldn't "feed the animals", but.

Rodney, it is beyond absurd to say that now we know how the other half felt during the Clinton years. Had the margin between Clinton and Bush 41, or between Clinton and Dole, been even CLOSE to what we've dealt with in these last two political nightmares, then we could consider that petulant argument. To say NOTHING of disenfranchisement on a conspiratorial level.

Funny how it was okay for the Rebublicans to cry for eights years during the Clinton administration. Not only did they cry, they spent more than $55 million dollars of taxpayer's money on a ten-year long smear campaign/witch hunt disguised as an investigation in an attempt to discredit him. (Compare this to the Bush government, who have spent a mere $12m investigating the events of 9/11. Which is more worthy of investigation do you think?) And after looking into everything from Travelgate to Troopergate to Whitewater to the suicide death of Vince Foster, the best they could do was nail him for lying about a blow-job.

55m on sex and 12m on 9/11? are you serious? dude that is SO ... ugh. ugh! where'd those numbers come from? cuz i wanna look it up and stare and say "omg this is fo' real." scares me, man. btw, who is vince foster? i feel like i've heard the name but i don't remember. i can't believe mr. kenneth starr isn't the most despised man since mccarthy. the dude is messed UP. but you know who's more messed up? he who drives drunk and then, like eight years later, decides to quit. he who won't answer questions about drug use. he who confuses me even more than the english language confuses him. oy friggin vay is all i have to say.

>Is cheating a conservative Christian’s idea of moral values?

er, is corporate greed? is murder (war)? cuz i've been

oh i don't know, groupie, in 1992 44,909,326 people or 43% of the voters chose bill clinton. 59,515,688 people or 57% of the voters chose someone else. or you could say that they voted against bill clinton. that's a pretty stark figure.

it got better in 1996 with clinton pulling 47,401,898 votes or 49.2% vs. the 48,987,920 votes or 50.9%. pulled by the other folk.

it's convenient to raise the specter of ralph nader while forgetting the jug eared gnome who pulled more votes in his worst year than ralphie even dreamed about. without him, bubba's a footnote.

Someone just PM'd me to inform me that to fully block a user from contacting you, you have to block the user in TWO DIFFERENT places:

1) In "Your Settings," under "Ignore Board Users"--which I had already

2) On the user's PM, under "Block User"--which I didn't do till now

Blocking the user in "Your Settings" will NOT prevent that person from PM'ing you.

Done. Now I can go back to enjoying BWW.

I agree--mojitos for today, I'm too tired with a family cancer diagnosis last night.

Papa, I would never forget the Texas Hummel figurine who got 18% in '92. They're still not comparable election years. Did you hear noise about "stolen elections" and minority disencfranchisement at the expense of the GOP in 92 or 96? I don't think so. And comparing the popular vote totals out of context is also neither here nor there--whatever, we're not all going to agree on this.

No more politics for me today.

Voting Problems Should Be Fully Investigated
Friday, 19 November 2004, 1:50 pm
Press Release: League Of Women Voters

VOTING PROBLEMS SHOULD BE FULLY INVESTIGATED & RESOLVED

Statement by Kay J. Maxwell, President of the League of Women Voters

WASHINGTON, DC - "The League of Women Voters is deeply concerned about voting irregularities in the 2004 election. The appropriate officials must fully investigate these concerns through open and public processes. Election officials should look into problems quickly and thoroughly and fix what proves to be wrong. Transparency and a willingness to look into potential problems will strengthen voter confidence and ultimately improve our electoral system.

"It is important to ensure that every properly cast ballot is counted and to make improvements for future elections. Attention must be given to inadequate polling place procedures, problematic voting machines, voter registration system failures, casting and counting of provisional ballots, and absentee voting issues.

"This was far from a perfect election. Although voter turnout reached record levels, the election system showed signs of stress and voters faced real problems. Two key areas deserve special inquiry. First, voter registration problems plague the system. These problems - from failures to fully process registration applications in time to bureaucratic requirements that blocked voter registration - must still be resolved by election officials. Second, the reasons for the very long lines that voters faced in too many states and localities must be thoroughly examined. Having to wait several hours to vote is an unacceptable barrier to citizen participation. What were the reasons? Were there not enough voting machines? Were these polling places poorly organized? Were long lines a greater problem in minority or student precincts than in rural or suburban precincts? Changes clearly need to be made in polling place operations to address these concerns.

"Finally, the League calls on every voter who cast a provisional ballot to find out whether their ballot was counted. The provisional ballot counting process is still ongoing and must be monitored. But every voter who cast a provisional ballot has the right, under the Help America Vote Act (HAVA), to know whether it is counted, and, if it is not counted, why it is not counted. States are required to have a toll-free hotline or Internet system so voters can get this information about their ballot.

"The League's nationwide network of state and local Leagues will continue to work closely with election officials to identify and correct all voting problems."
