Well this is a first for me. We just had an earthquake that woke my husband and I up. It lasted about 46 seconds, it wasn't a big one apparently, but it was a very weird experience. I never think about earthquakes in Indiana.
ETA- They just announced that it was a 5.4 on the ricter (sp?) scale.
Just heard about the earthquake on the news, Unbelieveable
It figures. I'm about 9 and a half months pregnant and I can't sleep worth crap. I FINALLY get to sleep and find a comfortable position and then an earthquake happens and wakes me up. I think that's a sign that I'm not meant to sleep ever again.
Anyways, its all over the news here. My parents in central Kentucky felt it too. I know that people on the West Coast get things like this all the time in comparison, but it was a very freaky experience.

Kelley - When is your baby due? My latest grand-niece was born on Sunday. Her mom just couldn't wait any longer so the docs induced labor and little Sam arrived about 4 hours later.
I was only in one earthquake and it was in California. I had spent the day visiting wineries (with their tasting bars) and came back to my aunt and uncle's house where my uncle had a pitcher of Margarita's waiting. Sometime during the evening a few more pitcher's were made and all the wine we bought was drunk. I don't actually remember this. What I do remember is going to bed and trying to keep one foot on the floor to keep the room from spinning. Very early in the morning I realized that all that room movement wasn't just in my head! In fact, the bed I was in was now in the middle of the room. If I hadn't still been numbed by the drinks I probably would have been terrified. Later on that day I was running up the stairs in the living room when a huge aftershock hit. It knocked me right down to the floor. I honestly don't know how people can live with that!
Drat. Slept through it.
My hamster (MY HAMSTER!) woke me up a few minutes before the tremors came. She was squeaking (which she almost never does) like mad and scratching like crazy. It's amazing to me that such a tiny animal (in a cage in a second-floor apartment, no less) could still feel that coming before I did. But I sure did feel it - it felt like my bedroom was rocking (and NOT in the good way)!

It woke me up too! I thought it was a dream until I got to work this morning and learned that other people felt it too.
I was trying to go to sleep and I felt it. I was so tired though that I didn't really think it was an earthquake until I looked on CNN this morning.
ETA: I don't want people to think I was going to sleep at 4:30 this morning, I woke up at about 4:15 and couldn't go back to sleep. So I was awake.

I don't want to unsettle anyone, but this isn't that big a surprise. Contrary to what people assume because of all the publicity given to the faultlines of the Pacific Rim, the 'New Madrid' fault system is the biggest in the country.
I slept like a baby! My mom woke me up and showed me the news. I wonder if LakeZurich felt it. He lives 10 mineutes away from me.

Well that's what that was! I live NW of Chicago and it woke me up- I had no idea what had happened however till I saw it on the news. It's my second earthquake- I was in Lake Tahoe when they had a 4.6 a few years back. I really felt that one! Not fun- very scary.
And fellow Midwesterners get prepared- the most violent earthquakes in the continental US were centered in New Madrid Missouri. It is only matter of time before we get another "Big one."
I felt it though I am not sure if I was awake for the main event or an aftershock. It just felt like a big truck was going by outside. It took me a couple seconds to realize it was an earthquake, but once I realized it was I just went back to sleep. Of course my parents who are visiting family in Minnesota called me at 6 in the morning about it. That disturbed my sleep more than the quake itself.
I grew up three houses down from a train track.
I slept through the earthquake.
I'm sure you can recognize the correlation.
Mamie, I'm due May 5th. Well, really I'm due may 8th, but they are inducing me May 5th if he hasn't come before then. I'm hoping he comes soon though because I'm miserable. I'm especially mad that this stupid earthquake woke me up because I'm so tired. There is a full moon on Sunday and I'm praying that the urban legends about full moons and pregnant women have a little bit of truth to them.

I live in Island Lake and didn't hear a thing. Not one person at school belived me when I told them about the earthquake.

Woke my dad up. Didn't wake me up.
Apparently freaked the baby (kitten) out and she sat on my Dad's chest for like, two hours, probably, meowing so loud I heard it through my headphones as I went on the computer to get information.
IN.
People on the news said they felt it in Cincy...I slept right through it.
Yeah, my friend was in Evansville. She called me and was scared sh*tless. It's pretty strange...
Near West 'burbs here. Totally slept through it. I had no idea until I heard the news.

I felt it here in Ohio. Everyone else here slept through it. It was confusing.
All the while the board members out west are most likely thinking to themselves, "You call that an earthquake?"
