Any of the BWW DCers feel the earthquake this morning?
I woke up and felt the shaking, but it never occured to me it could be an earthquake- it's not something I even considered for this area. I didn't find out it was actually an earthquake until this morning when someone asked me if I felt it.

My niece in Baltimore felt it. She was up with her baby. Felt a thud and thought there had been an accident on the street. It woke her husband. He got up and went to the window. Didn't realize it wss an earthquake until they heard it on the news. First time for her and her hubby. Is that area on a fault???
My stepbrother in Lovettsville, VA felt it.
It apparently was felt in Virginia as well, but I didn't feel a thing.

Just curious - what did you think it was? Glad you're ok.

I have to admit, I thought it was a bomb. I heard a huge "BOOM" and the windows and walls shook furiuosly - but only for @ 5 seconds. I thought earthquake tremors lasted a lot longer than that.

That's pretty awful to have thought that - terrifying, even.
I was fast asleep and awoke abruptly, so I rationalized that I just felt like I was shaking because I was jarred awake. It was my first earthquake and it was 5am; I had no idea what was going on.
Bluemoon, I've spoken to a lot of people who thought it was an explosion or a plane crash. There was an article I read that said eastern earthquakes in the US tend to be louder because the bedrock is older and harder than that out West.
Of course, the latest internet conspiracy theory is that the earthquake in the DC area was caused by plugging the oil well in the Gulf. Or from the fundie base- because DC courts upheld same sex marriage.

You're serious, aren't you?
I'm in DC and I didn't feel a thing.
Would you believe that reactions from individuals in Washington D.C. were quite comical sometimes, I guess I see why. The largest earthquake ever since they have been being recorded hit the area this morning; records only go back to the mid 70's. The earthquake wasn't as large in comparison to some other recent quakes, but was huge for the area, I am just glad everybody is okay. People were scared and going as far as to take out a cash advance for emergency supplies, and flooding emergency respondent's phone lines. I am really glad everyone survived without fatalities, because people panicking alone can cause a lot of difficulties sometimes.
