Ebert & Roeper quit the TV show

From Roger Ebert's blog:

"After 33 years on the air, 23 of them with Disney, the studio has decided to take the program named "Siskel & Ebert" and then "Ebert & Roeper" in a new direction. I will no longer be associated with it."

Richard Roeper has also announced plans to leave the show (after the August 18th episode), also due to this "new direction."

Sounds odd. I was wondering what was up when they quit the "Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down" thing. Very sad. I loved the show for Ebert's passion.

Any news what the "new direction" is?

Roxy---I wholeheartedly agree.

They were two guys who genuinely loved movies... more than they loved themselves. Every critic who has followed has loved themselves more than movies. So. Very. Obviously.

Roeper (aka "Dweebert" of "Ebert & Dweebert At the Movies") makes me SICK. And to realize that he's better than any of his guest-hosts has made me switch the show off... forever.

Do you guys remember that annoying critic who hated everything that was not Disney? He's some crazy born again dude now who misinterprets everything to support his crackpot theories.
I wanna say his name is Michael Medved, but i'm not sure.

Honey, I used to watch this back when it was called "Sneak Previews" and aired on PBS (remember when they had interesting programming...ah, nostalgia).

tazzy, you are right...Michael Medved is a right wing tool.

Without Siskel and his banter with Ebert, this show has not been worth watching for years.

Ebert's been kind of off the deep end for a little while now. His review of BEOWULF was just plain bizarre, claiming it was a comedy a la MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL, for instance.
