Does anyone have a list of some of the more new, edgy, contemporary playwrights?? I'm thinking along the lines of Lori-Parks, Guirgis, Iizuka, Rapp?? I'm looking for some contemporary plays with edgier dialogue/monologues, thanks for the help!

I don't really have a list, but Sarah Ruhl's plays are pretty good. They're kind of minimalistic, have a lot of monologues, & deal mostly with relationships. I wouldn't necessarily describe them as "edgy" but if you look up production photos of her plays, they could provide more inspiration. The 2st Theatre production (earlier this year) was especially fantastic (I saw it this summer & fell in love).

Other than that, I'm rather uninformed. You could always try some of Samuel Beckett's short plays (they're old but still very current & bizarre & edgy). I like "What Where" and "Catastrophe" the best. Good luck!

Neil LaBute
I don't know the playwright, but Coyote Ugly. I wanted to go home and shower after I saw it.

Also Ohio Impromptu by Samuel Beckett. Great monologue/2-person piece.

I second Nicky Silver. Libby has two really good, edgy monologues in 'The Maidens' Prayer'.
