If you like that, here's more Ella and Jo, with Benny Goodman and Harry James and Lionel Hampton in the 1958 Texaco Swing into Spring special.

She's SO butch, isn't she?

Have you figured out how to save YouTubes yet?

Count me in. Her "Autumn in New York" is definitive.

Off topic, but not: anyone interested in standard-bearer singers of the golden era, the best Christmas is Capitol's compilation, Let it Snow!" In addition to more predictable fare (Lena's rendtion of the title ditty) it has treasures like June Christie doing "The Merriest,", Kay Starr's "Man With the Bag" (a favorite of mine, too) Julie London doing "Warm December," Peggy Lee's "Song at Midnight" and June Hutton's tirelessly cheery "Song of the Sleigh Bells." The best Christmas album.

What do they call that CD? "A Very Dykey Christmas"?

Well, there is a nice photo of one of the singers diving through the snow for her dropped muff.

Jo Stafford is good but "Darlene Edwards" is the cat's pajamas, the bee's knees and the most singularly indescribable and delectable singer in the history of Western Civilization.

Either you know "Darlene" or you don't, and if you don't, find some of her (with accompanist husband, Jonathan) increasingly rare recordings. A must!

"Darlene Edwards" is the most confident singer ever.

Why do you keep putting Darlene's name between quotation marks?

Is it not her "real" name or something?

And Auggie--Is there a Margaret Whiting song on "A Very Dykey Christmas"?

Darlene and Jonathan are in a class by themselves. Thankfully.

PEACE.

Actually, PJ,Ms Whiting is on my other favorite Capitol compilation, the tribute to Hoagy Carmichael.

Which also has my favorite Kay Starr recording, "A Woman Likes to Be Told" -- the title of which would nicely serve a Dyke ditty collection, no?

"Dyke Ditties."

It has a nice ring to it.

My three favorite singers!! Especially Jo Stafford. (Of course Darlene is truly a guilty pleasure)

Thanks for posting, PalJoey.
