I saw Elvis Costello in a sold out concert at Atlanta's Tabernacle Theatre last Sunday evening. The 30+ year multi-talented veteran keeps his shows fresh by mixing new material with obscure album cuts and new takes on old favorites. The concert featured a significant amount of material culled from his latest effort - the blues tinged, Grammy nominated "Delivery Man" CD. His band, The Imposters, was terrific as they charged ahead through 30 or so songs over a 2 and 1/2 hour period without a break. Folks wanting to hear some classics like "Pump it Up' and "Watching the Detectives" weren't disappointed, but sometimes Elvis updated his chestnuts. An inspired version of "Alison" toward the end of the show segued seamlessly into the 'other' Elvis's "Suspicious Minds". - And yes, Elvis Costello had a Broadway moment! During a guitar solo in the middle of the concert, Elvis played 4 perfect bars of "I Feel Pretty" from 'West Side Story'. I'm sure that it was meant for all the BWWers in the audience!

"At the opening night party, they had clowns on stilts, jugglers, a chocolate fountain, popcorn, hot dogs. [My son] looked at me like I had been holding back. Like, 'This is what you do?' I had to tell him, 'No, no, darling. Opening nights don't usually look like this.' It's usually a dark bar with a bottle of vodka." ?Chitty Chitty Bang Bang's Jan Maxwell plus i proudly share the title of the shortest member over the age of 10 with wickedrentq!
