That voice!
That hair!
Those hips!
Those lips!
That black leather comback special ensemble!
And then he fell apart. Sad.

I am going to get butchered for this, but I like his songs but his voice tends to grate on my nerves. I mean, it's hard to tell what he says a lot of the time.

Posted: 3/7/07 at 5:37pmI agree with that as far as the post-drugs years, but his early gospel stuff was incredible.

Posted: 3/7/07 at 5:39pmI mean, even some of his early stuff grates on my nerves because he does that thing where he runs his words together. I can't describe it, but when he sings in a clear voice, it sounds great.

Posted: 3/7/07 at 5:55pmI don't particularly like it when singers run all their words into one long 'noise', but it wouldn't turn me off Elvis. Fair play to you for having the guts to say that, though!
deep-delving, dark, deliberate you would say
browsing on spire and bogland; but today
our sky-blue slates are steaming in the sun,
our yachts tinkling and dancing in the bay
like racehorses. We contemplate at last
shining windows, a future forbidden to no one.

I love Elvis. What an amazing entertainer. I hate how in his later years he became this joke but that was partially his own doing due to his eccentric behavior and overt drug use.
He recorded some incredible songs. My absolute favorites came in the late 60s/early 70s: Suspicious Minds, In The Ghetto and Don't Cry Daddy.
Favorite Elvis movie is a toss up between Viva Las Vegas, King Creole and Girl Happy.
