This adaptation is wonderful. Lovely performances all around and the locations are heavenly.

I was disappointed in this one, just because I had high hopes and I love Romola and Jonny Lee, and I waited forever for this to air in the US (it aired in the UK months ago).
But as far as bbc adaptations of Jane Austen go, it was still pretty good, I guess. It's on about the same level as 2008's Sense and Sensibility and eons better then Gwyneth Paltrow's Emma from the 90's.

I've been watching, and it's soooo good! Note, I haven't read the book or seen the Gwyneth Paltrow version, but it's been such a lovely story so far. The performances, cinematography, and costumes are all top-notch.
Oh, and thank God it's all online too!

Posted: 2/2/10 at 6:29amI'm liking it! I've always liked the Gwyneth Paltrow version, but I think I prefer this one. I especially like the ball scene. Mr Knightley is fantastic... I'm glad they didn't pick someone overly pretty. Although it is weird having such a good-looking Mr. Elton.

I just finshed it online and it was so good! I think Jane Austen was wrong when she wrote Emma will be a heroine no one would like...I love the character!
It was a truly beautiful, funny, and romantic film! I'm surprised at how many "laugh out loud" moments the movie had! I also love how sunny & bright everything was. And the score was amazing!
You have this main character who is rich, beautiful, and so headstrong that she believes she is right in every situation. Emma is sort of an anti-heroine, but I really liked her a lot. I also liked how she didn't feel the need to marry because she already had everything she ever wanted. She was just a normal human being. Also, she and I are very similar. I related when Emma said "I have been so busy managing everyone else's heart, I do not know my own." Romola did an awesome job.
Even at almost 4 hours, I did not want it to end! Oh, and that ending was great!
